This 7-day Biology Program is based in the Waterberg Biosphere, Limpopo Province, South Africa, and is designed for biology students seeking practical, field-based experience in conservation and ecological research. Hosted at Lapalala Wilderness, the program offers an immersive introduction to the daily realities of field biology within a large, protected landscape. 

Lapalala Wilderness is internationally recognized for its commitment to long-term conservation and environmental education. The reserve combines biodiversity protection with youth education. 

Participants work alongside conservation professionals and take part in hands-on activities such as vegetation and veld condition assessments, water quality monitoring (Mini-SASS), invasive plant management, tree and grass identification, animal health assessments, and area integrity studies. 

The program also explores community engagement topics, including land tenure and conservation challenges in South Africa. This program is ideal for students interested in biology, ecology, and environmental stewardship, offering meaningful field experience in one of South Africa’s most important conservation areas.
