If you are looking for action amidst wild life, like some mental and physical challenges, also want to learn something and support the black rhino this is the place to be! In the ten-day anti-poaching crash course you will learn all the essentials you need for the real thing afterwards with the professionals on the grounds of mount Etjo Lodge or on a custodian farm, I chose the former option and had the time of my life! The basics of conservation, navigating using the stars, handling weapons, self-defence, monitoring and protecting wildlife and many other things are covered in theory but mainly in practice in the middle of the beautiful African bush. During my training we also did a tracking exercise with a French anti-poaching unit including air support and that was pretty spectacular! At Camp Rhino, where you will receive your training, there is a watering place just 15 metres away where a wide variety of animals come to drink regularly, the elephants however prefer the pool water which leads to hilarious scenes and the Nyalas jump over the wall to eat some fresh grass from the garden, so you are literally surrounded by wildlife! So if you want to get a wonderful African experience and also support a wonderful cause, protecting the critically endangered black rhino, this is you chance!
