Startup City Fukuoka is THE BEST
February 14, 2024by: Peter Brown - United StatesI don't know where to start but this IT internship for the past three months was a game-changer for me! I have made so many contacts, developed my Java Script and C++ coding skills to the next level while networking with the local entrepreneurial crowd filled with international IT geeks, locals business man and even a few angel investors, Fukuoka just blew my mind! The best thing about Meiji was how much of a grip and connection they have in Kyushu and really know the whole local companies pretty much. I have hung out with the staff and fellow interns for a couple of dinners and food gatherings and I cannot intensify how much it is important to get out of your comfort zone.
If only all internships were like this...
September 26, 2022by: Michael Smith - AustraliaOff the back of a terrible internship I did back home in Australia, I still felt as if I hadn’t really gained any work experience, so I searched abroad. Meiji’s services appealed to me for the professionalism (as well as all the fun the interns seemed to have had). I was so glad to find that this followed true with my internship, because they handled my case so professionally and efficiently, and I had so much fun! They placed me in the graphic design department of the local tourism board, and my main tasks were to design marketing materials to inform residents and tourists (both domestic and international) about events across the city. I felt that I thrived in this role and really gained a lot from it. Plus, I got to attend all of the events as part of my work, which was a much welcomed bonus! This internship showed me what true work experience is, and I’m glad I continued searching after my bad experience in the past.
Countryside livin'
September 26, 2022by: Angela Wallace - United StatesI was lucky enough to do my internship at a resort on the outskirts of Fukuoka, the area was basically in the countryside but it still had a bit of a city vibe to it. I’m a big fan of the countryside, and being a bred-and-born city boy, there was a lot to discover. Seeing those tiny road-side vegetable shops that have no staff and rely purely on the honesty of people was definitely a highlight for me and a reminder why I love the Japanese culture so much! I will say, I’m definitely not a fan of those countryside spiders though (they’re HUGE). Working at the resort was a real pleasure. I think many of the guests were shocked to see a foreign face working in a countryside resort, but they were so kind and I loved answering all of their curious questions! There a few occasions were I was surprised to find that guests had gone out of their way to buy gifts for me, Japanese people are honestly so sweet. If you’re considering Japan for your internship destination, I absolutely recommend Meiji, and equally as much recommend the countryside!
A memorable internship with a lot to takeaway
September 20, 2022by: Marcus Jackson - CanadaLately I have really focused on the value of experiences, which was different to my old way of thinking, which was purely about money. When I first heard of unpaid internships, my first thought was, why? After my internship in Fukuoka I now fully understand, and I wouldn't hesitate to do another. I did an internship at a local recruiting agency, and you cannot put a price on the experience I gained from that place. My assigned role was to handle communications with foreign applicants, and as a native English this was absolutely no problem for me. I have also studied Japanese for many years in the past, so speaking Japanese with my colleagues is no issue for me. I enjoyed the work, but I will be honest and say it’s not my passion - although everything is a step towards finding your passion! Fukuoka is also a fantastic environment to do an internship in. It has all the best elements of Japan while also being a bit more on the laid back side of things, so it’s no where near as intense as Tokyo for example. For me, it was the perfect balance. This was a top quality internship, and it really unlocked new levels of potential for me!
Fukuoka for life
September 20, 2022by: Jordan Francis - United KingdomOn one hand, this was a great internship. On the other hand, it was terrible, but only for the reason that I grew to love Fukuoka so much and now have to leave :( My internship gave me the opportunity to work with a 5 star hotel. To be honest, I thought they were just going to stick me in front of a laptop for 3 months answering emails, but this was definitely not the case! I was actually given real tasks, and every day I experienced something new. I had a super supportive team and they genuinely cared about my personal development. I felt so lucky! Plus, probably the best part of it all, my boss would let me use the hotel’s sentō in the mornings :D After work I made every opportunity to enjoy Fukuoka, and I did so much! If you go there, you’ll be amazed by the sheer number of restaurants you’ll find. If I had to pull out one experience I enjoyed the most, it would be catching a baseball game at the Paypay dome. The atmosphere is incredible and it really makes you feel like a local Fukuokan! While I am bitter about having to leave Fukuoka, this is a place that will stay in my heart forever…
I loved my host company
September 13, 2022by: Jason Webb - United KingdomCredit to Meiji for partnering me with possibly the best company I’ve ever worked with. Every day in the office was a day full of laughter (don’t get me wrong, we all worked hard) and the trips to the local bar as a team after working hours were just as fun. Best 2 months of my life, but now not looking forward to the withdrawal symptoms.
I recommend it
September 13, 2022by: Gabriel Fabre - FranceIt was good for me because I can have the work experience in Japan and Asia even if I am not speaking the language. I had some fun and learned a lot and now my CV has some great experience to show to the employers. Perfect!
I did a lot in Fukuoka!
September 13, 2022by: Lola Holzer - AustriaI don’t mean I did just work in Fukuoka, as I spent a lot of time travelling and enjoying the different aspects of Japan at the same time. The work was tough, but at the end I felt satisfied in the experience I had gained. I lived 20 minutes by bus from my work, so I should say that Meiji found me a really convenient apartment. However I do wish that it had a bicycle because everybody seems to use them in Fukuoka since they are so convenient. My top 3 favourite experiences in Japan was: eating motsunabe, doing karaoke, going to a maid cafe!
Francesco's review
September 13, 2022by: Francesco Marino - ItalyThis program gave me the opportunity to build some relationships with professionals in their fields, and to learn about new technologies and above all experience the real Japan life with immersing myself into the Japanese culture
Family vibes
August 02, 2022by: Caitlin James - United KingdomMeiji Academy gave me major family vibes, coming to class was like coming home hahaha. The staff are all so lovely, and I loved our little chats before and after the lessons. They all seemed so keen to make sure my first time in Japan was as fun as possible, so they kept me updated with any upcoming festivals, told me all the best places to eat, helped me with any of questions etc. I really got on with the teachers too, they understood that I am generally pretty slow when it comes to learning languages, so they broke things down into easily digestible pieces for me. It made learning such a breeze, and I conquered so much during my stay. By the end, I was able to talk in only Japanese when I was at Meiji! If you’re looking for a comfortable way to learn Japanese, this is it!
Excellent School
July 13, 2022by: Giuseppe Monti - ItalyI studied at this excellent school for some weeks, and it was really great for my learning of Japanese. We learned all the basics and some very useful things to say in Japan life for example words at the supermarket. I also had a lot of fun in Fukuoka and ate many delicious foods, it is a really great city. It was a useful experience and I think that I would recommend this for anybody.
Really happy with my internship
July 12, 2022by: Luke Harvey - New ZealandI completed my PR & Marketing internship after 3 months in Fukuoka, Japan. It’s a great city with so much opportunity and entrepreneurial spirit, it really feels like it is the best place possible for a young individual like myself who is in the midst of starting a career. My host company was on the smaller side which was definitely my preference, because it meant I could work very closely with my colleagues, and also get to know them on a personal level. They quickly became my friends and they were keen to show me the culture of Fukuoka outside of work hours, I can’t thank them enough for this! Meiji are brilliant, the staff actually care and don’t just send you out on any old internship. They thoroughly considered what I wanted from my internship, and I have to say they made it happen. I would absolutely recommend Meiji Internships.
Fun professional development
July 07, 2022by: Jade Carey - CanadaI chose to do my internship in Fukuoka after doing some research into the different cities in Japan, and I decided on somewhere a bit lowkey that most people don’t get the chance to see. This was probably the best decision I could’ve made! I had so much fun in the city, no matter the time or the place there is always something to do in Fukuoka. The internship was engaging and I worked on some very challenging projects. I saw a different side of Japan within the business world, and was able to get a better idea on what it takes to maintain a career in Japan. I was also able to do a lot of networking throughout my time there, so I was able to form some very valuable connections. Overall I am very happy with my experience with Meiji, definitely consider Fukuoka!
Wouldn’t think twice about doing it again!
July 01, 2022by: Bryce Fuller - United StatesFukuoka is the start-up capital of Japan, so that alone should give you good reason to do an internship here. There are so many young entrepreneurs here it feels like the type of place you can grow as a professional. My business development internship was with a local young entrepreneur who taught me a lot and allowed me to see a hands-on approach to running a start-up in Japan. In the process I made a lot of useful connections and I’m now considering a future running my own business in Fukuoka! This was definitely worth doing for me, it was everything I expected from an internship and more.
Loved every minute
June 28, 2022by: Elizabeth Stacey - AustraliaI would absolutely recommend Meiji Internships to anybody considering an internship in Japan, it’s hassle-free and you honestly save yourself a lot of time and headache. From the first email I sent to the minute I finished my internship, they were responsive and helpful in every way. They found me the perfect host company who really made my time there special. It’s a clear 10/10 for me, I’d 100% do it all again given the chance!
Awesome city full of awesome people
June 28, 2022by: Joseph Parker - AustraliaFukuoka is such a good city, its criminally underrated. It feels like one of those cities where everybody is on the same wave, it’s super easy living and everyone is so happy! I was working with some real die-hard Fukuokans who were eager to show me everything about their culture, which included a lot of good food. The whole experience was fantastic, my highlight would definitely be surfing in Itoshima! Meiji were great throughout, so can’t be faulted really.
Great experience in Fukuoka
June 24, 2022by: Amelia White - United KingdomMeiji did everything promised and more! The communication with them was always clear and reliable, and they really cared for us and made our stay in Fukuoka one to remember. It’s easy to see they don't just choose any business to partner with, as my host company was probably the best I could’ve ever worked with. Fukuoka was a great stop on our 1-year itinerary, and the 3-month internship I did was fantastic. I’m not sure how the rest of Japan compares, but the food here is crazy good… hakata ramen might just be the best thing to come from this country. I’m sad it’s come to an end today, but this is not the last time I’ll set foot in Fukuoka.
Fukuoka internship
June 24, 2022by: Natasha Jones - United KingdomI came here with my best friend 3 months ago, as we both decided that we wanted to get some real work experience in Japan. We came with the working holiday visa and both chose Meiji to arrange an internship for us to cover the first 3 months of our stay. As our interests are in different industries, we weren’t working in the same company, but we spent every day after work together and from what I heard her internship was just as great as mine. The staff at my company were so sweet and they made my time in Fukuoka so special, I’m really going to miss them going forward but I’ll always be grateful for all they did for me. My internship finished today but I’ll be in Japan for another 9 months, I’ll definitely be back in Fukuoka some time soon!
Really good time in this really good town
June 07, 2022by: Hugo Antoine - FranceFor the internship I was in Fukuoka for some months, and I think this was the best choice I ever made. I did not know what was Fukuoka before even coming here and I was thinking to go to Tokyo. But in the end I think that Fukuoka is better than Tokyo Osaka or Kyoto! I emailed to Meiji telling the things I want to do and other details about it, and they listened then gave me the perfect internship for me. I worked with a japanese company that was very kind to me and they gave me a lot experience. It was the first time for me to do a full time job so it was definitely useful for me to learn some things, plus in the Japanese way it will give me a good unique way to think in the future.
What an introduction to Japan!
May 22, 2022by: Chloe Daly - IrelandI finally arrived in Japan after a long (too long) wait of 2.5 years. I came on a Working Holiday Visa with hopes to travel the country and experience everything Japan has to offer. With that said, some real work experience in Japan was equally as important to me so I set my mind on a 1 month internship here. I began searching for Japanese internship providers and at that point I came across Meiji! After some in depth consultation, I was matched to a local business in Fukuoka who was looking to improve their business presence to foreigners in preparation for the borders opening up. I personally found this project really exciting, and I felt I could offer a lot with the perspective of a foreigner. Initially I had no idea where Fukuoka was and really had no desire to visit - but I’ll tell you now that would’ve been a huge mistake. Fukuoka was my first stop and it was honestly hard to leave, I easily could’ve spent my whole year there. The incredible staff at the business treated me like family, and introduced me to everything the city has on offer. I had a pretty good work life balance too, I was engaged in meaningful tasks at all times, but once the work day was up I was free to enjoy Japan! Probably like most people, I had read about all the terrors of the Japanese working culture, but I didn't experience that in the slightest. Having Meiji there to support me at all times was also very reassuring, plus their actual office is located in Fukuoka so I could easily drop in if I had any issues. This was the best possible way to start off my year in Japan and I’m so glad I’ve discovered the secret of Fukuoka. It’s a goodbye for now as I continue my travels around the country, but believe me I’ll be back! Sayonara xx
Das Abenteur geht weiter Digga!
May 14, 2022by: Ke vin - GermanyMoin Leute! Beste City in Japan.
FUK is the place to be!!
May 14, 2022by: Malte Elbert - GermanyI came on the WHV (Working Holiday Visa) here for a two months internship in an Import & Export company who do sales of Japanese goods and used car vehicles to the European and American market. My mother tongue is German and my English is also not bad so I was able ton help with a lot of operations, product shipments and researching. Almost done with my work experience but still so much more to learn. I made great contacts thanks to Meiji's good network of companies and local connections that they have here. The Share House is also really cool and the people are very nice. We are going out for some sightseeing and sometimes grab food together. I really recommend everybody to do the share house you will not disappoint you. Thanks again to my wonderful internship placement and really kind boss who gave me chance to learn very much.
So good I don’t even want to talk about it
May 13, 2022by: Sarah Cameron - CanadaEver been to a place so amazing you don’t want people to know about it? That’s Fukuoka for me! Before doing this internship I had no idea the place even existed. To be honest I had my eyes set on Tokyo and I was a little worried Fukuoka wouldn't match the hype, but boy was I in for a shock. The place is just… amazing. The people are great, the food is amazing, the city has everything you need, like to the extent I was seriously considering leaving Canada behind forever. I know I sound like one of those corny travel bloggers, but Fukuoka is a real hidden gem. Shout out to Meiji for introducing this place to me because I definitely would’ve never came here otherwise. In addition to being a place of dreams, the internship I did was pretty good too. I will admit sometimes it felt like I had a little too much work, but I guess that’s down to my laziness because an internship should be about work. I definitely still had a lot of time to explore Japan though so I really shouldn't complain. The accommodation was perfect too, something about it felt so wholesome, it was so “natsukashii”. If you’re considering Fukuoka for an internship, all I can say is do it, and just be aware I’m jealous of you because I’d love to do it all again.
Part of my heart!
April 23, 2020by: Patrick Medved - GermanyAfter graduating from university i decided to go abroad for an internship in Japan, Meiji Internships helped me to get my Marketing & PR internship in Fukuoka. The support i received was great and the process, starting from the application until the actual placement, was fast and easy. During my Marketing & PR internship in Fukuoka i gained a high amount of knowledge and developed my creativity in the field of content production for distribution and websites, hence i was mostly working on copy writing and SEO content. Variation was brought by conducting market research and analysis tasks. The internship provided me with a work-life balance for my time in my Marketing & PR internship in Fukuoka, as it is a great place to develop your creativity constantly due to the breathtaking cityscapes or skyline beside the beautiful landscapes sourounding the city, reaching from gorgeous beaches to steep mountains. I am thankful to have the opportunity to get to know so much amazing people from around the world, i can only recommend to choose a stay in a Share House as it provides you with enough own private sphere but enough shared time to experience an amazing time with your Share House mates!
My second home
March 23, 2020by: Evan Thompson - United KingdomI had the time of my life in Fukuoka. I loved the daily routine I had there. This city became a second home, and my host company was my second family. I will miss them so much. I will miss my roommates as well, we had so much fun living together in Japan. We actually didn't have a lot in common. We were from different nationalities, we didn't listen to the same music, we all had different favourite food..., but one thing was connecting all of us: our interest in Japan! This internship was an opportunity for me to gain skills in marketing and learn more about Japanese culture. I gained self-confidence when I realised that I could do things on my own without failing. I would have stayed longer if I had more time, but my one-month internship was still a wonderful experience. Doing an internship gives you a huge advantage to write down on your CV. You will have a better idea of what type of work and career you want to pursue, as well as an incredible experience that you will remember forever.
Discovering Kyushu
March 14, 2020by: Benjamin Kelly - United StatesI did a tourism internship in Fukuoka in late 2019. Most of my work was about answering customers' questions on the internet, on the phone or at the hotel, as well as managing bookings and reservations. I also did some marketing through social media like Instagram and Facebook which was really fun to do. The working environment wasn't stressful at all allowing me to be productive and dynamic! We went on a weekend trip to takachiho, the most beautiful place I have ever seen! Japan's sceneries are gorgeous, one of the most splendid countries I have ever visited. Wandering the streets of Fukuoka is an adventure in itself. My favorite place was the daimyo area. So many students - so many shops - so much to do!
Lovely memories
March 10, 2020by: Caspar Verhoeven - NetherlandsThis program is excellent for travelers who want to have work experience while traveling and understanding Japanese culture. Really, this experience was life-changing. Having the chance to explore Fukuoka and learn about its culture and history by interacting with the local communities was amazing. It taught me how to be open-minded and respectful and I think you should listen to your heart as well and go for this adventure without fear! The Meiji community was the best! Everyone was kind-hearted and I made friends for life. They encouraged me and pushed me to be the best I could be. Thanks to them and to my host company, I've gained confidence in my own abilities and potential. Mata ne Fukuoka~~
Great internship in a nice city
February 10, 2020by: Julia Holler - AustriaI feel so lucky to have interned in Japan! I got incredible marketing skills as well as Japanese skills. I was lucky because my company was offering Japanese lessons for their interns, twice a week. I stayed for one month in Japan, in Fukuoka and I was so sad to leave this beautiful country! When I applied I didn't have a precise idea of what I wanted to do, I just wanted to experience something new and try to live in Japan. The staff of Meiji Internships did a great job and gave me good advice. They said that according to my CV and my introduction, a marketing internship or a tourism internship would fit me better, and I finally went for a marketing internship. So basically I was doing some digital marketing work and I also wrote some emails. I really learned a lot thanks to this experience, thank you Meiji!
Business development internship in Fukuoka
January 20, 2020by: Romy Krüger - GermanyThrough this internship, I became more independent and got self-confidence. I think it's important to communicate when you start something new in an unfamiliar environment like an internship. During the first days, I wasn't really expressing my feelings and my difficulties at work so I had some hard times. But then, when I finally tried to speak with my co-workers and ask them about my questions, they helped me right away and all my problems were suddenly solved! Fukuoka was a very nice destination, I traveled a bit in Kyushu (Oita prefecture and Nagasaki prefecture) and came back with unforgettable memories!
My best internship so far
December 11, 2019by: Amandine Bcqt - FranceMy internship in Fukuoka was not my first one, but it was the first in Asia. Everything was so different from my previous experiences. I mean, yeah, you will learn things related to work of course, but not only! The culture is completely different from Europe, so you will learn about society, ways of thinking, food (the best haha)... It helped me opening my mind and becoming more tolerant. Interning in Asia was definitely a good idea. Fukuoka is an incredible place. I was so happy that Meiji Internships found me something there! Now I can also speak a bit of Hakata's dialect! Kyushu is a Paradise on Earth, with so many beautiful spots. I was able to visit some places on weekends, like Oita or Nagasaki. Yep, no regrets!
Comfort zone escape
November 30, 2019by: Amelia Hasting - United StatesPersonally, I did step out of my comfort zone A LOT when I came to Japan. I learned a lot, not just work-related but also about myself. I also made many great friends and gained real life work skills. The company even helped me figure out some coding, editing with photoshop and other it skills that I had never considered before. You can learn a lot in 2 months!
Career-shaping!
November 18, 2019by: Hanna Böckmann - GermanyMeiji has given me the amazing opportunity to work abroad in an amazing country. I was placed with a fantastic IT company with a great work and learning environment. My main tasks revolved around business development and marketing and even though I am a Business Administration major myself, I had plenty of opportunities to learn new things. I was also given the time to explore and take in the culture. Japan’s culture is so unique! I still think about it a lot in my daily life back at home. I met a lot of good friends, made connections, had unforgettable experiences and furthered my vocational skills. I could not thank Meiji enough for all the support. You guys are wonderful!
Great support for Japan newbies!
October 27, 2019by: Eli Walton - United StatesI strongly suggest doing an internship with Meiji. I chose the Standard Package for 3 months and worked for a Digital Marketing services company. It was my first time visiting Japan and also, my first real work experience (not counting babysitting tho hahah). Meiji handled everything very professionally. I was certain that my millions of billions of questions would push their buttons eventually, but they always responded in the friendliest and most helpful manner! Great help for a Japan newbie like me! I enjoyed my internship a lot because I was involved with many departments and had the chance to learn a lot. This will surely come in handy in future opportunities. Housing was great as well. Fukuoka’s cool. No complaints.
Your experience is what you make of it
August 07, 2019by: Celeste Mandoza - PhilippinesI found out about Meiji Internships online. My biggest concern applying to the program was its legitimacy and whether they would find an internship for the time (late May) and industry (Business Development) I was interested in. However, the Meiji program was well-structured and my internship placement was the perfect match! They are fun and professional, just like it is advertised. The application process from the day I had my Skype consultation to landing in Fukuoka was all very smooth. I met many other interns and university students through the program. Especially Business networking events were a great way to meet new people and network on a larger scale. I want to continue working in Asia and maybe return to Japan one day to start my own business. So having some connections in my field of interest is crucial. Meiji Internships paves the way for your future career, you just gotta walk it yourself! I had an unforgettable summer! Thank you!!
Hands down: best city to intern!!
June 15, 2019by: Jason B - CanadaI did a three months human resources/marketing internship. My tasks were ranging from promoting online marketing campaigns, creating digital marketing content to creating job career fairs for fellow international students here in Fukuoka. When I first looked into intern in Asia and specifically in Japan, Tokyo was my first choice. Once I did some research and read through all the online resources that Meiji had on their website, I quickly changed my mind and started looking beyond Tokyo. I haven't been to Japan or even Asia before coming for my business internship here. That's why I was so worried I might end up in a small city with nothing to do...oh dear I found out too soon that I was completely wrong! Sunny beaches, great mountain hiking tracks, a large range of night clubs, bars, international events, cultural festivals and free social meet-ups proved me wrong. haha Fukuoka has all you can imagine and it never gets boring. The people over here were all so friendly, hospitable and accommodating. I never felt treated like an outside and was even invited for a karaoke party by strangers once. I was lucky enough to had the chance visiting also Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka to have a comparison. Don't get me wrong. Tokyo & Co. were great, but Fukuoka just has a special place in my heart. Everything is nice and convenient about this place. You can even hop on the plane and go for a weekend trip to Seoul and Taipei (P.S.: I did both!). Last but not least, for every RAMEN FAN: Fukuoka is the Ramen capital in Japan and the birthplace of Tonkotsu Ramen. Make sure to arrive hungry with a big appetite!
Internship experience
February 27, 2019by: Princess Joy Manuel - AustraliaI had a really great time during my internship. I was able to immerse myself in the Japanese culture. I loved the people I've met and the scenery of my host country. Furthermore, I was able to learn a lot about the culture. The people I met were very kind and thoughtful. It was a wonderful time overall.
Internship with Meiji
December 28, 2018by: Jacky Shi - ChinaGreat opportunity to experience Fukuoka local business operations thanks to Meiji’s connection. 100% would love to come back. Meiji was extremely helpful in recruitment, interviews, and follow ups. Organized socials and kept me updated. Constantly checked how I was doing and invited me to participate in events.
Photography internship
November 20, 2018by: Jennifer P - United StatesI did my internship in Fukuoka, Japan. Meiji was very helpful in every step of the way. The staff was happy to assist with questions or complaints. Overall my experience was great and I made many friendships and gained a lot of knowledge and new skills.
Digital marketing internship
October 26, 2018by: Clara Wagner - GermanyI did an internship for about two months in a digital marketing company where we focused on testing new product articles for the European market. I even was entrusted a customer research on analyzing market response, behavior and what approach we should use to better tackle local demands of markets in Germany, France and Italy. Cannot talk too much in detail about company projects, but one thing that was very rewarding was the trust and tasks i was appointed. Meiji did a great job in assisting me throughout the process and their business workshop very helpful in getting a first understanding of what it means doing business in Japan with Japanese.
International career chance
October 23, 2018by: Amelie H - DenmarkThis was my first professional internship i have ever done and my first time outside of europe (Turkey won't count). My Japanese language skills were close to zero, but it was great they still offered me a chance to do a business internship. I did a placement in a firm specializing on local government promotion for foreign tourists. The beginning was a bit difficult to get adjusted to but my co-workers were super friendly and I had a lovely supervisor who even took me out for yummy lunch sometime. I really think the business workshop and Japanese courses at Meiji help a lot before doing the internship.
Event Management Internship
October 20, 2018by: Maximilian P - AustriaChallenging, fast pace environment, a lot of responsibility but never boring. This internship was so rewarding and i got to organize my very own event where we did fundraising for the victims of the recent taifu in the Kansai region. The best thing of all was that i did not get any special treatment but had to do the job like everybody else at our team. it really gave me a good picture of all tasks i have to perform in the event management business. customer acquisition, event planing, making the flyers and marketing material and publicizing the even information in local restaurant establishments. Fukuoka was one of the most competitive places that i did an internship so far. If you can succeed in Japan, you can succeed anywhere in the world!!
Awesome time in Japan's Silicon Valley
October 11, 2018by: Betty Nelson - CanadaAs someone who had never been to Japan, I was tempted to make a move to a place I had no idea what to expect. Tokyo, Kyoto and the other main cities seemed too touristy. So I decided to give this city a chance. And I have not regret it any single day! Vibrant nightlife, endless shopping opportunities, unique local culture & food, Fukuoka easily became one of my favorite destinations to work and live. What made my time truly amazing where the people I met, from my co-workers, fellow Meiji interns to all the great Japanese friends I made during the cultural activities organized by Meiji’s network. Anybody who wants to experience the real side of Japan’s international startup scene and is on a low budget should definitely give Fukuoka a chance!!
Great support throughout my stay!
August 11, 2018by: Noah G - NetherlandsThis summer, I was looking to do a business internship in Japan, but soon I found out that it is not as easy as here in the US to get an internship by yourself. Even though I am an international student (from the Netherlands) it seemed easier to get a response from possible internship placements here in New York. However Japan seemed impossible…my internship search became really a hassle. I think one problem is the language barrier (Sorry to say, but Japanse companies lack so much in English!!) and also the “polite” rejection I got all the time was very very frustrating! I came across Meiji Internships and soon setup a video call with them. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Making me realize that Japan is one of these special places where connections play a big deal to get into a company! Once I sorted out all the application process, they found me a good internship in business development. First I wanted to do Tokyo or Osaka, but after some consultation I was happy to give Fukuoka a go. I wasn't too sure what to expect, but as soon as the plane landed, I knew I made the right choice. The international startup scene, abundance of social activities and the chilled out lifestyle under the sun made me really wanna go back. My company was in a niche market for selling Japanese products abroad and also do the foreign branding. So I spent a lot of time doing international customer research, analyzing marketing trends for our client’s products and also making my very own presentation in front of my client! It was an amazing experience!! One thing I did not really like was the food…I know many people love Japanese food but raw Sushi and rice on a daily basis were a little bit too much for me. Thanks everybody at Meiji Internships for your patience and support throughout my internship and also the follow up counseling session at the end. Hope to see you guys soon again when I’m coming over!
Reliable and efficient throughout the program
July 17, 2018by: Janina - NetherlandsLast year I showed up on a very short notice (less than a month) for an internship. They told me that usually they require at least eight weeks notice before an internship could be considered. Meiji managed somehow to find me a great placement last minute in less than a week after I contacted them first. Have to admit it was everything in a rush, but they did a great job and were very responsive throughout my program. Highly recommend them for internships!
Can recommend for business students!!!
July 14, 2018by: Susan - United Statesi was desperately looking for an internship in Japan this Spring. My expectations were very high but I was facing a lot of rejections from approaching Japanese companies on my own. Meiji Internships helped a lot as an intermediate between me and my future host company. After finally getting an offer for my business development internship at a trading company I was very relieved. It made me understand that without Meiji’s program I would have never had the chance to meet with so many great local and international business people here in Japan. To my surprise many of the other interns in Fukuoka were from Europe and also some Aussies and Kiwis too. I had a great time with the other interns and really made the most out of my time there. Next stop: Japan again!☺

Journalism internship in Fukuoka City
May 23, 2018by: Simone - GermanyMy internship experience last year winter with Meiji Internships exceeded my expectations! During my initial interview with the internship consultants at Meiji Internships, they listened very carefully to all my needs and also tried to find something suitable for my requests. The service was very efficient and professional, not to mention of the great support they offered on site. They placed me in a journalism company that was also very active in promoting local businesses and cultural events in the larger Fukuoka Area. Overall my experience was great, but I really felt that I should have done a few weeks more Japanese studies before starting my work. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone seeking a unique work experience in an exotic country like Japan!

Fresh autumn days with a hot internship!
May 13, 2018by: Scott Wilson - United StatesI did my internship in a hot spring/hotel resort on the outside of Fukuoka City. I was so lucky enjoying the best of both worlds, relaxing countryside with unlimited hot spring baths (almost daily!!) and weekend parties in downtown Fukuoka. Too bad my three months internship was so quick over. One thing I wanna stress out is, make sure to see Kyushu's countryside. It's beautiful and the locals are so friendly and eager making friends with you. If there wouldn't be the language barrier. Anyway my Japanese got better after three months... Meiji bring me back to Kyushu!!!

Marketing intern in Fukuoka
May 11, 2018by: Janina Rosenberg - NetherlandsWorking as a marketing intern for a large advertisement agency in Fukuoka was just simply mind-blowing! As this was my first time in Asia and my first internship abroad, I quickly began to see my personal strengths and weaknesses. The most struggling thing was the language barrier in Japan. But I was really happy that Meiji Internships put a lot of effort in communicating and structuring my internship before. They spoke with my company and even organized one to one sessions where I had the chance to discuss and talk about my personal development while I was still an intern there. Japanese people are really lovely and I have to say that I regret that I only did a short crash course of two weeks Japanese business at Meiji. I highly recommend everybody to either study some basic Japanese phrases or include at least four weeks Japanese language studies in Japan before starting an internship :) Meiji Internships for everything ありがとうございました!<3
My law internship
April 23, 2018by: Marie Roux - FranceI have never thought it is possible to do a law internship in Japan. It always felt to me like being one of the industries, which is difficult to enter especially the language barrier, seemed a big obstacle. However Meiji Internships undertook a lot of effort to find me an internship related to patents and copyright infringements. My main duties were focused on translation of documents, dealing with foreign customer enquiries, attending and setting up client meetings in advance. Experiencing how contract negotiations are done in Japan from first hand was an invaluable experience. I am really thankful for making this great internship possible. Merci and Arigatoo Gozaimasu Meiji!!!

Amazing summer internship!!!
April 22, 2018by: Carol Lin - United KingdomI cannot stress out how much I am grateful and appreciate the whole internship experience I had with you guys last summer! Teaching English in a Japanese high school was not just fun, it was also a really valuable time! I also made so many friends with fellow Japanese and interns from Meiji’s programs. Make sure to go to Itoshima and Nokonoshima island when you are in Fukuoka! The water is crystal clear ;-*

My consulting internship
April 19, 2018by: Tina Johnson - United StatesThe staff at Internships was really really helpful for finding me a consulting internship in a large cosmetics producer. I was also involved in organizing coaching and counseling seminars for affiliated sales companies. I was lucky to observe and experience first hand how sales strategies are designed and implemented for medium sized cosmetic boutiques. The in-depth exposure to C2C dealings for related business specifics, such as time management, cost effective outsourcing and operational management solutions was a mind-blowing experience. I highly recommend doing the business course that Meiji offers before stepping into the consulting world in Japan. There are sooo many unspoken rules in Japanese companies that are difficult understand from a foreigner's perspective without being coached. After my graduation next year, I will be back for a full time job in Japan! Arrigatou gozaimashita Meiji Internships! Korekara mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
Best decision of my life
April 16, 2018by: June Davis - United StatesI did a design internship at a really stylish studio in downtown Fukuoka. Great fellow colleagues, international team, and a lot of creative projects I was involved. What else can I say? Meiji You Guys ROCK!

Unforgettable memories in Fukuoka
April 16, 2018by: Rachel Wright - United StatesPreviously I have studied abroad in Japan for a whole year, but what this internship experience taught me was above my expectations. Meiji Internships has guided me throughout the whole process and invested a lot of effort to organize me a personally tailored internship in a logistics company. At first I was a very concerned if I would be able communicating with my Japanese colleagues. The cultural differences and social interaction seemed so complex in a corporate environment. Luckily the counseling and coaching workshops I received from Meiji Internships beforehand helped me a lot with overcoming these hurdles. My fellow colleagues were also really keen on helping me in understanding cultural peculiarities. They were very patient and answered all my questions I had related to how the workflow is being done. After an amazing six weeks my internship was already over and it was a very heartbreaking farewell with my colleagues…they even came to the airport with me… Meiji Internships thanks for everything you did in making this internship possible.

Amazing work placement in an import/ export company
April 07, 2018by: Steve Smith - United StatesDear Meiji Team, You guys did an awesome job! At first I was worried about the communication at the company as my Japanese was pretty beginner level, but my supervisor Tanaka-san was such a good sempai!! Man I learned so much from him during this placement and the whole customer research project I was involved in with clients from Europe and America was such an exciting project!!! Anyway can't tell too much company details here...lol Will be back next Summer guys ;) Arrigatou
My life changing experience
April 07, 2018by: Sarah Gonzales - EnglandMy two months internship at an Eikaiwa (Japanese style English conversational school) in Fukuoka city was an unforgettable memory! I learned a lot to communicate and talk with people from all backgrounds. The staff at my host company was also very supportive and really friendly. Most of the weekends I went to local sightseeing spots in Kyushu. I really recommend going hiking Mount Aso and also the nearby Aburayama Mountain in Fukuoka. Fukuoka is also a great place for surfers and anybody interested in water sports. The most memorable event was the Kimono Event that they organized. For everybody who wants to be kawaii it's a MUST. Arrigatou Meiji Team and a big thanks to Ozaki-sensei. I miss you :(

Great internship in Sunny Fukuoka
February 14, 2018by: Petra Lang - GermanyMeiji is a team of young international professionals and their positive spirit is just GREAT! My internship couch was there for me every day and usually replied in a few hours to my emails. My two months NGO & NonProfit internship was filled with field trips to local farms, sightseeing spots, volunteering works at kindergarten and elder day care centers and their social activities were fun. Make sure to reserve some time for Japanese studies too. Meiji Academy keep up the good work! Gambattekutasay!! ;-)
Petra-san,<br/><br/>Thank you for your nice review!<br/>W will continue to provide professional work placements for coming Meiji Interns.<br/><br/>Special Greetings from Suzuki-san :)
My unforgettable work experience in South Japan
February 14, 2018by: Sarah Lee - EnglandBefore I heard about Meiji, I just wanted to travel for two months in Japan and improve my Japanese. When I learned about their internship program and also the opportunity to study Japanese together I became really curious. I wanted to prepare myself for job interviews in the near future and thought of getting some work experience in Asia. That's why it felt perfectly. As I am studying Japanese and East Asian culture, I decided that doing an internship would be a great chance to brush up my resume. I have travelled two times before to Japan, but have only been to Tokyo and the Osaka area. When I found out about Meiji's internship program and also about Fukuoka I became very curious. The communication with the staff and also their Skype interview went really smooth. First I had concerns as I haven't done any proper work besides of part time jobs in boutiques and cafes, but everybody was so helpful and gave me good advice for the company interviews I had. I already got accepted by my first host company, which was a tourist agency providing cultural activities and guided tours for foreigners. After my four weeks of Japanese conversational studies at Meiji Internships, I did another four weeks the internship. I was scared of the language barrier but everybody was really nice and made effort to talk to me in English AND Japanese which helped a lot. The company was giving me first a lot of translational tasks but i was able to also organise a whole customer research project from scratch and present it with my supervisor to one of our marketing agency clients. We had almost every week two drinking events by the company which were quite fun and sometimes ended up at Karaoke. lol On my last day I just couldn't hold back my tears... Hope I will be back soon to Fukuoka and Japan...
Sarah-san,<br/><br/>We are very pleased by your warm words and do hope you will come and visit us again in the near future.<br/><br/>P.S.: Your food photos make us hungry ;-)

A dream comes true!
February 12, 2018by: Thomas Müller - GermanySince my childhood it was always my dream to work and live in Japan. I always wanted to go to Japan, but I didn't really know where to start. Which destination is good for first timers? What should I do? How much will it cost me and how to organize such a big journey. Currently I am second year student and I really wanted to use my Summer break to go to Japan eventually. I had to convince my parents that it won't be just for travel and fun, but also getting something meaningful out of my trip. Luckily Meiji Internships helped to guide me on all steps to fulfil my adventure. I discovered that Meiji Internships offers professional internship placements paired with Japanese language courses. I decided to doing an "International Education Internship in Fukuoka" for six weeks and made a lot of local high school and university friends, who were my language exchange partners :) From the many destinations they offer I chose Fukuoka in the south of Japan. First I hesitated to choose any other location than Tokyo, but soon I discovered what is so special about Fukuoka. Abundance of cultural activities, great social night life and the food was sooooo good! Not to forget: Fukuoka is really cheap for Japanese standards!!! There are too many special moments I had, but being welcomed by all the locals made me feel really sad when leaving this place after being there for almost two months... Anyway will be back next Summer for my break Meiji!!! Greetings to Hanada-sensei :)))
Hi Thomas and vielen dank! :)<br/><br/>It was so great having you had here!<br/>We hope you are doing well and come back to Japan soon again!<br/><br/>All the Best,<br/>Your Meiji Academy Team
