MEDLIFE is a nonprofit organization that delivers medical, educational, and developmental aid to communities in need in Latin America. We have a strong base of students supporters and seek to empower college-age students in the fight against poverty. We started as a University of Maine student group in 2004, and now work with students and professionals from across the United States. We have grown exponentially since its initial founding. Now, more than 100 colleges and universities currently host MEDLIFE chapters. We operate mobile clinics in seven sites in four countries. A full-time staff of workers in Ecuador, Peru, and Tanzania coordinate all aspects of our operation. Definitely the Mobile Clinics have been a very nice experience, extremely rewarding. We have learned a lot together with other doctors in all stations. This has been a truly rewarding and beautiful experience.
Learning Cultural Competence in Healthcare

Here we’ve learned a lot about different medical systems in Peru and how patients have different needs than the ones we were used to. I think gaining some more cultural competency is huge for our future career in medicine.

The way of life of individuals is different in every country, so I already had some background knowledge of what an SLT is like, but every SLT is unique and special in its own way, offering new experiences and learning opportunities each time.
