Who is eligible to apply for this maternity volunteer program?
The program is open to student interns who are in at least their second year of a nursing or related degree program, and to professional volunteers with a minimum of 6 months of relevant work experience. All applicants must be 18 years or older.
How long can I volunteer and when can I start?
You can volunteer for anywhere between 2 weeks and 12 months. There is no fixed start date — you can begin at any time throughout the year that suits your schedule.
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers your accommodation for the duration of the program, placement preparation and coordination, airport pick-up and drop-off, and a complimentary one-hour Swahili language lesson. A separate clinical practice fee is required by the Tanzanian Ministry of Health for all foreign medical volunteers.
What are the accommodation arrangements like?
Volunteers stay in a clean, modern shared volunteer house in a quiet neighborhood about 15 minutes from town. The house includes comfortable bedding, breakfast and weekday dinners, Wi-Fi, hot showers, 24-hour gated security, and housekeeping. A resident coordinator is available to help you settle in.
Is it safe to travel to Tanzania alone as a volunteer?
Yes, solo travelers are welcome. You will have strong support from your personal volunteer coordinator, fellow volunteers, and hospital supervisors. The program emphasizes forward planning, respect for local customs, and responsible behavior to ensure your safety throughout your placement.
