What are the eligibility requirements to volunteer with this program?
Students must be at minimum in their second year of a Medicine or related university degree. Professional volunteers must have at least 6 months of work experience in a relevant healthcare field. All participants must be 18 years or older.
How long can I volunteer and when can I start?
You can volunteer for anywhere between 2 weeks and 12 months. There is no specific start date — you can begin at any time during the year.
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers your accommodation, placement preparation, facilitation and coordination, airport pick-up and drop-off, and a free one-hour Swahili language class. Note that a separate hospital participation fee of $25–$50 per week is also required, payable to the host facility.
Where will I be staying during the program?
You will stay in a shared volunteer house in a quiet, friendly neighbourhood approximately 15 minutes from town. The house includes comfortable bedding, breakfast and weekday dinners, Wi-Fi, hot showers, 24-hour gated security, housekeeping, and a resident coordinator.
Is it safe to travel to Tanzania alone as a volunteer?
Yes. The program provides a strong support system including personal coordinators, airport pickup, and fellow volunteers. Solo travelers are welcome, though it is important to research your destination, respect local customs, and take personal responsibility for your safety.
