Working with Children in Mombasa, Kenya

This program partners with centers providing care to children from poor families in Mombasa or Diani Beach. The local team In Mombasa collaborates with two community schools. One center caters to 25 children from ages 2-14. Volunteers assist with teaching the younger kids during the day and planning activities and trips for the older kids. The other center is larger and serves 38 vulnerable children. It has a school with 200 students. Here, volunteers lead classes and activities. Both sites appreciate individuals with experience in social work, counseling, construction, building, behavior management, and special needs children.

The Diani Beach community care center is around an hour away from Mombasa. It has strong religious values and shelters 58 children aged 4-23. Volunteers are involved in teaching, planning activities and trips, fundraising, completing projects, painting, cleaning, and helping with homework and chores. Those with musical knowledge and skills may assist a children's band, especially when visiting local hotels to raise money.
