Program Overview

During this 8-week course, students learn the role of marine animals in the ocean ecosystem and the critical issues facing their conservation, taught by a specialist veterinarian. This covers all marine life, including corals, invertebrates, bony fishes, sharks and rays, sea turtles, birds, and mammals.

The course discusses the unique challenges of sea turtle and marine mammal rescues. It consists of weekly online lecture recordings and assignments that students can complete at their own pace throughout the week, as well as live discussions twice a week. They also receive one-on-one mentorship from a marine veterinarian.

The tuition includes three credits and a transcript from Iowa Wesleyan University. Ideally, participants must have completed at least a semester of college-level biology and understand basic scientific terms for our online veterinary courses.

Great course, highly recommended

I really enjoyed this course. Dr. Max was really great by letting us into his life and his passion for marine wildlife and sea turtle rehabilitation. Lectures were posted weekly and there were live discussions twice a week. The instructors were very quick to respond and very helpful if you had questions on grading or just wanted to go more into depth about a questions that came up in the discussions. I personally have always been interested in marine life and this course really gave me an insight into what marine veterinary medicine is like. There was a lot of information, but I would recommend this class to anyone curious about marine biology.
