Why choose Laos Conservation Trust for Wildlife ?

The Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW) is the only registered organization in Laos dedicated to rescuing all species native to the country. Our mission is to rehabilitate and release animals, provide education to local communities, and run conservation breeding programs. We collaborate with Lao authorities and local communities to rescue as much wildlife as possible, particularly animals affected by the illegal wildlife trade. Those animals that cannot be safely released will receive lifelong care at our Wildlife Sanctuary, which was newly built in 2024. Our sanctuary offers world-class enclosures and veterinary care at our state-of-the-art wildlife hospital. With our recent move to the new site in 2024 and the continuous influx of animals due to ongoing illegal wildlife trafficking, volunteers will have the opportunity to see firsthand the impact they are making on Southeast Asian wildlife. We are always building and improving enclosures, feeding animals daily, and creating enrichment devices to keep our permanent residents engaged and active. Currently, LCTW is home to over 200 animals, including bears, crocodiles, primates, turtles, and deer. We frequently receive pangolins, and you may even be fortunate enough to witness their release during your stay. Nestled in a beautiful national park, volunteers will be fully immersed in Lao culture and gain unparalleled experience working with endangered wildlife.

This volunteer programme is excellent, I had the best time here. The volunteer co-ordinators are super friendly and you feel very at home straight away. The accommodation is really cute and it's amazing to listen to the Jackals at night and the Gibbons when you wake up in the morning. During the day you will be helping clean quarantine enclosures, creating enrichments for the animals and helping build new enclosures and renovate old ones. You can directly see how you are improving the lives of animals at the centre. Watching the bears enjoy fruit ice lollies which you have made them is amazing, it's such a satisfying feeling to see the animals enjoying life. The Vet's on site are awesome too, and are always happy to explain which animals they are treating currently and why if you are interested in the medical side of things. All the staff are so passionate and really care about the mission here. You won't be disappointed.
