The thing I enjoyed the most is that I met some amazing people, even though it was virtual. I made new friends, gained connections, was able to connect and work with real clients, and work under supervision. This will contribute to my future as a psychotherapist, and help me with my skills when working with clients in person.

I enjoyed how this internship gave me insight into the cultural differences between Valencia and the UK, but also the rest of Spain. My internship was easy to adjust to (particularly with the help of Rafael in my first week when my supervisor was away), and whilst it was not exactly in line with my future career I learned many valuable skills that I can apply in the future.

My three-month internship in Madrid was a uniquely valuable experience that strengthened my development as a 21-year-old aspiring clinical psychologist. What made it truly stand out was the chance to work directly with real patients through one-on-one sessions, allowing me to apply theory in practical, meaningful ways and confirm my passion for clinical work. The bilingual setting—half English, half Spanish—challenged me while helping me improve my Spanish and adapt to a wide variety of clients. The team was incredibly supportive, always willing to translate, guide, and adjust schedules so I could participate fully. The work environment was educational, flexible, and welcoming, which made learning feel natural rather than pressured. Although most sessions were online, and in-person days were fully in Spanish—which at times made communication difficult—the experience highlighted the importance of reducing language barriers and gaining more hands-on clinical exposure. Overall, this internship offers future students real therapeutic responsibility, cultural immersion, and a genuinely caring team. It is an exceptional opportunity for anyone seeking meaningful clinical experience early in their career.

I loved meeting new people and understanding their culture while in Tanzania. I as enjoyed learning new methodologies and skills that can be contributed toward my professional development goals in future.

Working alongside such a passionate and experienced group of professionals has helped me grow in various aspects, both personally and professionally. This experience has taught me about the power of empathy, active listening, and mostly the importance of collaborative working.

I enjoyed this internship more than I expected. What I loved most was the combination of a warm, holistic work environment and the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, such as writing two chapters for an e-health book. I also really valued the clinical case discussions, the creative tasks like designing infographics, and the chance to learn from workshops on different psychological topics. This experience contributed enormously to my personal and professional development. I became more independent, more confident in my communication skills and more open-minded through working in a different culture. It broadened my perspective on psychology, improved my English writing, and helped me understand the kind of professional I want to become.

I enjoyed interacting with others interns who were also part of the internship programs in Spain. I also enjoyed working with the kids at my placement and learning skills with the help of my supervisor. The support received from Intern Abroad HQ was very detailed.

I enjoyed exploring the culture in Spain the most. The internship helped me understand teenagers more, understand what they go through, see life from their perspective and see what we can do to help them. All was really good, everything was detailed. My host family was amazing, made me feel like part of their family and made the stay in Spain so much easier.

I enjoyed learning about the Spanish culture by visiting historical places and trying new foods. I also loved meeting new people from different parts of the world that were also in Valencia to learn Spanish or partake in an internship. My internship helped me better understand what it was like to work with individuals who fall under the neurodivergent spectrum and helped me further solidify my desire to pursue my future career aspects. Intern HQ provided me with knowledge to prepare me for living in a new environment and gave me everything I needed to thrive in my internship. They were very thorough on what was expected of me by my host, the culture, and my internship. My host was very welcoming and patient with the language barrier between us. She provided me with everything I needed and more. She respected my privacy when I needed it and communicated things clearly with me.

I appreciate my Program Manager in New Zealand and all she did, my Work Internship Manager in Spain and her efforts finding and supporting a site and content, and my Supervisor in Spain and her immense effort with patients and topics and me. And everyone accomplished all this bilingually across timezones remotely!

This internship has provided me with both personal and professional growth. Aside from gaining academic and practical skills, I made amazing friends and connections. My Program Manger Sarah was great and answered all of my questions.

I enjoyed learning more about future career possibilities while being abroad and experiencing a different culture. This contributed to my development as it pushed me out of my comfort zone and improved my independence.
