Institute for Global Studies offers internship placements in the fields of Education and Social Services, where your efforts are sorely needed to help improve the literacy rate among inner-city families in Honolulu, Hawaii. We also have Education/Social Services internships in other countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Nepal, Thailand, and Ecuador.
The main goal of the internship is to help parents with low literacy skills to become more active in their children's learning. An important focus of the program is on reading and other educational or recreational activities to help develop reading and motor skills. Parents are brought into the process as well. They receive the skills and confidence necessary to feel comfortable as their child's first teachers.
