Inner City Youth (Education/Social Services) Internships
Institute for Global Studies offers internship placements in the fields of Education and Social Services, where your efforts are sorely needed to help improve the literacy rate among inner-city families in Honolulu, Hawaii. We also have Education/Social Services internships in other countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Nepal, Thailand, and Ecuador. The main goal of the internship is to help parents with low literacy skills to become more active in their children's learning. An important focus of the program is on reading and other educational or recreational activities to help develop reading and motor skills. Parents are brought into the process as well. They receive the skills and confidence necessary to feel comfortable as their child's first teachers. Interns are asked to fill a number of different roles, all in the interest of helping the children. Many of them have been neglected at home and, therefore, are incredibly appreciative of any attention offered. Apart from helping to improve literacy rates among families, this internship is also a great way to gain insight into your host country's diverse culture.
