Institute for Global Studies offers internship placements in the field of Archaeology in several destinations all over the world. Participants support university researchers, which entails both field and laboratory work. This is an intensive placement and relies on all forms of research, from the actual archaeological dig to libraries and the collection of oral histories in the area.

An archaeological investigation typically involves several phases, each of which utilizes its own range of methods. Before any practical work can begin, however, the research team must agree on a clear objective of what they want to achieve. With this done, they survey a site to find out as much as possible about it and the surrounding area. This is followed by an excavation to uncover any buried archaeological features. Data collected from the excavation is studied and evaluated to achieve the archeologists' research objectives.
