Join a meaningful wildlife conservation volunteer program in South Africa and experience life on a working conservation reserve while supporting wildlife and habitat management.

Volunteers may assist with activities such as wildlife monitoring, tracking, game counts, reserve maintenance, conservation research support, animal observation and practical reserve tasks. Depending on current priorities, participants may learn more about species including rhinos, cheetahs, wild dogs, antelope and other native wildlife.

The program combines hands-on conservation experience with opportunities to learn about South Africa’s ecosystems and the challenges involved in protecting vulnerable species. Activities vary according to the needs of the reserve, so each stay is different.

No previous conservation experience is required. Training, guidance and orientation are provided. The program is suitable for first-time volunteers, students, gap-year travellers and solo travellers.

Duration: 2–12 weeks, with regular Monday start dates. This is a self-funded volunteer program; program and registration fees apply.
