Master of Arts in Interior & Furniture Design - IED Florence

Design shapes how we live by responding to social, cultural, economic, and environmental systems. The Master’s Degree in Interior Design Hacking Tradition: Reinventing Craftsmanship and Materials approaches design as a conscious, context-driven practice rooted in dialogue with local territories and traditions.

The program redefines the relationship between designers, materials, and place by combining innovation with traditional knowledge to explore new uses of natural and local resources through sustainable design. This aligns with the DesignXCommons vision of ecological regeneration and resource care.

The course is strongly connected to Tuscany’s manufacturing culture, known for excellence in marble, textiles, furniture, jewellery, and leather. These local districts become open laboratories where students experiment, prototype, and collaborate using sustainable materials.

Through design methods, research, workshops, trips, and studio visits, students develop projects based on social and cultural contexts. Graduates acquire creative, technical, and strategic skills, preparing for careers in interior, furniture, sustainable, collectible, and luxury design, or PhD studies.
