My gap year in France
July 18, 2017by: Olivia - United StatesI had an amazing time in France through Greenheart's 10-month high school abroad program. I was in the "deep south" of France, and by the time I left people told me I'd picked up on their southern accent! The year was in no way an easy one: it took a lot of work to successfully integrate into my host family, find friends (the language barrier is SO real) and master the language. But every moment was worth it! I have an amazing relationship with my host family and lots of friends from my French high school, plus other exchange students I met on the trips. The coordinator for our region was very helpful and kind, and she helped me with anything I asked of her. All in all, it was an awesome experience and I'm sure I'll be heading back to France soon enough to see my new friends again!

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get to travel?
The program offers many optional weekend trips to places like Disneyland, Lille, and more. If you opt into one of these trips, you will travel with other exchange students and chaperones for the weekend. However, you're not permitted to travel on your own. There will be opportunities to travel through the program and/or through your school, but you must be accompanied by an approved chaperone.
I have already graduated from high school, can I still join?
Yes. On a case-by-case basis, we accept graduates for High School programs in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and England.
Can I go home to visit or can my parents visit while I'm abroad?
No. Visits are not allowed during the high school program. If your family wishes to visit, they should plan to meet once your program is over. In this instance, Greenheart Travel’s office and international partner office should be informed of your family’s plans for pre-approval.
