Cuba - Island Seaside Conservation
Program Overview
Volunteer abroad in stunning Cuba and support the conservation of coral reefs and sea life. Snorkel in crystal clear waters while participating in the upkeep of sea plants and surveying aquatic life. This volunteer project aims to protect the beautiful ecosystems on one of Cuba’s most entrancing islands. Measure the health of these ecosystems as well as assist in gardening and general maintenance. As living organisms, the needs of coral reefs are constantly changing. Therefore, our project activities vary according to the current needs of coral reefs and other aquatic ecosystems. Volunteer tasks generally include coastal habitat restoration, coral reef monitoring, seagrass surveying, fish surveying, turtle and nesting site monitoring, coral gardening, and lionfish monitoring and capture. The Island Seaside Conservation program in Cuba accepts volunteers with varying levels of experience. However, please note you must be an experienced snorkeler and dive certified to participate in coral gardening and lionfish capture activities. An intermediate level of Spanish is also necessary since most island residents are non-English speakers.
