Ni Hao

August 12, 2026by: Clara Van Buren - Belgium

I studied Mandarin at Peking University for 4 months through GAC. I arrived knowing only "ni hao." My homestay family was amazing – they only spoke Chinese, so I had to practice every single day. My teacher was patient and made classes fun. By month three, I could order food, take the subway, and have real conversations with locals. The GAC team organized weekend trips to the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. I came back to Belgium with confidence and a second family in Beijing. Highly recommend.

I spent 6 weeks studying Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai. My homestay family was wonderful — they took me to local markets and taught me to cook Shanghai-style dishes. My teacher focused on practical conversation, not just textbook grammar. By the end, I could comfortably order food, take taxis, and even bargain at the fabric market. The GAC coordinators organized visits to the Bund, Yu Garden, and a day trip to Hangzhou. This experience gave me confidence and a love for Chinese culture. Highly recommend.

I studied Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai through GAC. I arrived knowing nothing — not even tones. My homestay family was incredible; they only spoke Chinese, so I had to practice every single day at dinner. Classes were small and my teacher was very patient. Within 8 weeks, I could order food, bargain at markets, and have simple conversations with locals. The GAC team organized weekend trips to West Lake and the water towns. This wasn't just a language course — it was a life-changing experience. Highly recommend.

I studied Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai through GAC. My homestay family was incredible — they spoke zero English, so I had to use Chinese every single day. My teacher was patient and made the classes engaging. After 8 weeks, I could hold conversations, order food, and even bargain at markets. If you want real fluency, do the homestay program.

I studied Mandarin at Peking University for 4 months through GAC. Coming from Germany, I was nervous about living in a new country, but my homestay family in Beijing made me feel at home from day one. My host mum even taught me how to make dumplings! Classes were challenging but fun — my teacher was very patient and pushed me just enough. I went from knowing only "ni hao" to holding real conversations, ordering food, and even bargaining at markets. The GAC team organized weekend trips to the Great Wall and Summer Palace, which made the experience even more special. I made friends from all over the world and my Mandarin improved faster than I ever thought possible. If you want to learn Chinese and experience real life in China, this program is worth every euro. I'm already planning to go back for an internship next year.

I had the pleasure of attending the Go Abroad China's Chinese language programs and studied at Fudan university in China. the process and experience with them was pretty smooth and convenient and within weeks i got confirmation, visa and flights booked to China. they handled every step of the process and after arriving at the Shanghai's airport they were there to pick me up and take me to my place which was a nice apartment. weekends we had tours and city exploring and cultural places had classes. it was a 8 weeks program and we finished it amazingly with best results.

I came from Switzerland and honestly living with a Chinese family that I’d never met made me worried at first, but as soon as i showed up the family was really welcoming, and always smiling. i went to the Beijing Language and Culture University, which made me feel like i am at the united nations and people everywhere packed into one campus. morning all about the classes, and then city tours, university exploring and so many others. i loved cooking with my host family which made me feel like i was a Chinese chef now. thanks to Go Abroad China for the experience.

Arabic VS Chinese

i gave this title because as Arab i really like really thought that i'll never ever learn Chinese or speak a word of it, from a very young age i was obsessed with Chinese anime and honestly i didn't know the meaning too, but growing up and getting into business and starting my e-commerce business and doing business deals with Chinese manufacturers i really needed to learn some Chinese. thanks to Go Abroad China for paring the way for me to go to China and learn Chinese. they helped me with Visa process, airport pick up and everything as promised. i returned back to Morocco with more knowledge of Chinese and nice memories of the nicest people of China.

This program is total language saturation.

January 03, 2026by: Sofia Costa - United States
5

This program is total language saturation. From morning classes focused on conversational fluency to afternoons where the city became my classroom, Mandarin ceased to be a subject and became my environment. The homestay was the cornerstone; my host family’s patience and inclusion turned daily routines into practical lessons, from cooking to local customs. Structured activities like calligraphy and tea ceremonies were enjoyable, but the real growth happened in unplanned moments—asking for directions, joking with market vendors, and thinking in Chinese without translation. This isn't just study abroad; it's cultural and linguistic deep-dive training.

Hi Sofia, You've perfectly captured the essence of total language saturation—where Mandarin becomes your entire environment, not just a subject. We love that your homestay provided the cornerstone for learning through daily life, and that real growth flourished in those unplanned, authentic moments. Thank you for sharing your deep-dive journey into language and culture. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team

This program redefines immersion.

December 27, 2025by: Saskia Vogel - United States

This program redefines immersion. It is a full-spectrum language acquisition protocol where Mandarin ceases to be a subject and becomes your environment's operating system. The formal morning classes at the Beijing institute built a robust syntactic framework, but the true fluency was forged in the furnace of daily life: negotiating a taxi fare, interpreting the chatter in a crowded tea house, and navigating the delicate dance of family dynamics within my homestay. GAC’s design is brilliant—it provides the scaffolding (classes, activities, support) and then trusts you to build your own linguistic reality within it. I didn't just learn to speak Chinese; I learned to listen to the city's heartbeat and think in its cadence. This is not a course; it is a transformation.

Hi Saskia, You've captured the essence of our program perfectly—a full-spectrum immersion where Mandarin becomes the very operating system of your life. We love that you built your linguistic reality within the scaffolding we provided, learning to think in the city's cadence. Thank you for sharing this powerful story of transformation. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team

This program dissolved the barrier between studying a language

December 21, 2025by: Kaia Williams - Australia
5

This program dissolved the barrier between studying a language and being claimed by it. The structure—morning classes at a Beijing language institute followed by afternoons of guided cultural immersion—was merely the scaffolding. The real construction happened in the unscripted moments: my host mother teaching me idioms through folk songs, getting lost in a labyrinth of hutongs and navigating my way back using only tonal cues, and the sudden, thrilling moment when my thoughts began to form first in Mandarin. GAC didn't teach me Chinese; it engineered an environment where learning it was inevitable and exhilarating. This is immersion redefined.

Hi Kaia, You've beautifully captured the essence of true immersion—where a program's structure becomes just the scaffolding for the real, unscripted moments of learning. We love that Chinese claimed you through folk songs, lost hutongs, and thoughts forming first in Mandarin. Thank you for sharing this exhilarating journey of inevitable and profound discovery. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team

This program didn't teach me Chinese—it taught me

December 11, 2025by: Linnea Vogt - Australia
5

This program didn't teach me Chinese—it taught me to listen to it in the rustle of bamboo, the sizzle of a wok, and the melody of a Beijing accent. The immersion was total: from morning classes dissecting classical poetry to afternoons where my 'homework' was bargaining for fruit in the hutong with my host grandfather. The language ceased to be a subject and became the very air I breathed. GAC’s structure provided the framework, but the magic was in the spaces between—the unplanned conversations, the shared laughter over mispronunciations, and the profound silence of understanding someone without needing a single word translated.

Hi Linnea, What a beautiful and profound reflection—you've truly captured the essence of deep immersion. We love that Chinese became the air you breathed, heard in everyday sounds and felt in unplanned moments of connection. It's wonderful that the program's framework allowed space for that magic to unfold. Thank you for sharing this poetic journey into listening and understanding. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
