Ni Hao
August 12, 2026by: Clara Van Buren - BelgiumI studied Mandarin at Peking University for 4 months through GAC. I arrived knowing only "ni hao." My homestay family was amazing – they only spoke Chinese, so I had to practice every single day. My teacher was patient and made classes fun. By month three, I could order food, take the subway, and have real conversations with locals. The GAC team organized weekend trips to the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. I came back to Belgium with confidence and a second family in Beijing. Highly recommend.

6 weeks at Fudan University
July 23, 2026by: Hanna Wu - CanadaI spent 6 weeks studying Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai. My homestay family was wonderful — they took me to local markets and taught me to cook Shanghai-style dishes. My teacher focused on practical conversation, not just textbook grammar. By the end, I could comfortably order food, take taxis, and even bargain at the fabric market. The GAC coordinators organized visits to the Bund, Yu Garden, and a day trip to Hangzhou. This experience gave me confidence and a love for Chinese culture. Highly recommend.

April 26, 2026by: Luca Bianchi - ItalyI studied Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai through GAC. My homestay family was incredible — they spoke zero English, so I had to use Chinese every single day. My teacher was patient and made the classes engaging. After 8 weeks, I could hold conversations, order food, and even bargain at markets. If you want real fluency, do the homestay program.

i miss my homestay family
April 21, 2026by: Hannah Schmidt - GermanyI studied Mandarin at Peking University for 4 months through GAC. Coming from Germany, I was nervous about living in a new country, but my homestay family in Beijing made me feel at home from day one. My host mum even taught me how to make dumplings! Classes were challenging but fun — my teacher was very patient and pushed me just enough. I went from knowing only "ni hao" to holding real conversations, ordering food, and even bargaining at markets. The GAC team organized weekend trips to the Great Wall and Summer Palace, which made the experience even more special. I made friends from all over the world and my Mandarin improved faster than I ever thought possible. If you want to learn Chinese and experience real life in China, this program is worth every euro. I'm already planning to go back for an internship next year.

You may hold conversations too

Fudan pleasure
March 11, 2026by: Ibrahim Al-Mansoori - United Arab EmiratesI had the pleasure of attending the Go Abroad China's Chinese language programs and studied at Fudan university in China. the process and experience with them was pretty smooth and convenient and within weeks i got confirmation, visa and flights booked to China. they handled every step of the process and after arriving at the Shanghai's airport they were there to pick me up and take me to my place which was a nice apartment. weekends we had tours and city exploring and cultural places had classes. it was a 8 weeks program and we finished it amazingly with best results.

Switzerland/Chinese Chef now
March 07, 2026by: Chloé Chloé - SwitzerlandI came from Switzerland and honestly living with a Chinese family that I’d never met made me worried at first, but as soon as i showed up the family was really welcoming, and always smiling. i went to the Beijing Language and Culture University, which made me feel like i am at the united nations and people everywhere packed into one campus. morning all about the classes, and then city tours, university exploring and so many others. i loved cooking with my host family which made me feel like i was a Chinese chef now. thanks to Go Abroad China for the experience.

Arabic VS Chinese
February 28, 2026by: Karim Benali - Moroccoi gave this title because as Arab i really like really thought that i'll never ever learn Chinese or speak a word of it, from a very young age i was obsessed with Chinese anime and honestly i didn't know the meaning too, but growing up and getting into business and starting my e-commerce business and doing business deals with Chinese manufacturers i really needed to learn some Chinese. thanks to Go Abroad China for paring the way for me to go to China and learn Chinese. they helped me with Visa process, airport pick up and everything as promised. i returned back to Morocco with more knowledge of Chinese and nice memories of the nicest people of China.

This program is total language saturation.
January 03, 2026by: Sofia Costa - United StatesThis program is total language saturation. From morning classes focused on conversational fluency to afternoons where the city became my classroom, Mandarin ceased to be a subject and became my environment. The homestay was the cornerstone; my host family’s patience and inclusion turned daily routines into practical lessons, from cooking to local customs. Structured activities like calligraphy and tea ceremonies were enjoyable, but the real growth happened in unplanned moments—asking for directions, joking with market vendors, and thinking in Chinese without translation. This isn't just study abroad; it's cultural and linguistic deep-dive training.
Hi Sofia, You've perfectly captured the essence of total language saturation—where Mandarin becomes your entire environment, not just a subject. We love that your homestay provided the cornerstone for learning through daily life, and that real growth flourished in those unplanned, authentic moments. Thank you for sharing your deep-dive journey into language and culture. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
This program redefines immersion.
December 27, 2025by: Saskia Vogel - United StatesThis program redefines immersion. It is a full-spectrum language acquisition protocol where Mandarin ceases to be a subject and becomes your environment's operating system. The formal morning classes at the Beijing institute built a robust syntactic framework, but the true fluency was forged in the furnace of daily life: negotiating a taxi fare, interpreting the chatter in a crowded tea house, and navigating the delicate dance of family dynamics within my homestay. GAC’s design is brilliant—it provides the scaffolding (classes, activities, support) and then trusts you to build your own linguistic reality within it. I didn't just learn to speak Chinese; I learned to listen to the city's heartbeat and think in its cadence. This is not a course; it is a transformation.
Hi Saskia, You've captured the essence of our program perfectly—a full-spectrum immersion where Mandarin becomes the very operating system of your life. We love that you built your linguistic reality within the scaffolding we provided, learning to think in the city's cadence. Thank you for sharing this powerful story of transformation. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
This program dissolved the barrier between studying a language
December 21, 2025by: Kaia Williams - AustraliaThis program dissolved the barrier between studying a language and being claimed by it. The structure—morning classes at a Beijing language institute followed by afternoons of guided cultural immersion—was merely the scaffolding. The real construction happened in the unscripted moments: my host mother teaching me idioms through folk songs, getting lost in a labyrinth of hutongs and navigating my way back using only tonal cues, and the sudden, thrilling moment when my thoughts began to form first in Mandarin. GAC didn't teach me Chinese; it engineered an environment where learning it was inevitable and exhilarating. This is immersion redefined.
Hi Kaia, You've beautifully captured the essence of true immersion—where a program's structure becomes just the scaffolding for the real, unscripted moments of learning. We love that Chinese claimed you through folk songs, lost hutongs, and thoughts forming first in Mandarin. Thank you for sharing this exhilarating journey of inevitable and profound discovery. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
This program didn't teach me Chinese—it taught me
December 11, 2025by: Linnea Vogt - AustraliaThis program didn't teach me Chinese—it taught me to listen to it in the rustle of bamboo, the sizzle of a wok, and the melody of a Beijing accent. The immersion was total: from morning classes dissecting classical poetry to afternoons where my 'homework' was bargaining for fruit in the hutong with my host grandfather. The language ceased to be a subject and became the very air I breathed. GAC’s structure provided the framework, but the magic was in the spaces between—the unplanned conversations, the shared laughter over mispronunciations, and the profound silence of understanding someone without needing a single word translated.
Hi Linnea, What a beautiful and profound reflection—you've truly captured the essence of deep immersion. We love that Chinese became the air you breathed, heard in everyday sounds and felt in unplanned moments of connection. It's wonderful that the program's framework allowed space for that magic to unfold. Thank you for sharing this poetic journey into listening and understanding. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
This program redefined immersion.
December 01, 2025by: Soraya Nasser - AustriaThis program redefined immersion. It wasn't about studying a language in a classroom—it was about letting the language study you, in the markets, on the subways, and over steaming family dinners. My homestay didn't feel like accommodation; it felt like adoption. The structured university classes gave me the tools, but the city of Beijing provided the workshop. I learned more about connection from a single conversation with a park chess master than from any grammar chapter. This is for those ready to be consumed by the language, not just learn it.
Hi Soraya, Thank you for this profound reflection—we are deeply moved by your words. You've captured the true essence of immersion: letting the language and culture truly absorb you, transforming daily life into your most meaningful classroom. We're so honored that your homestay felt like adoption and that Beijing itself became your workshop for authentic connection. What a beautiful way to be consumed by the language. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
From my first nervous "nǐ hǎo" to my final fluent conversation
November 22, 2025by: Ananya Patel - United KingdomFrom my first nervous "nǐ hǎo" to my final fluent conversation with a Beijing street vendor, this program transformed not just my language skills but my entire worldview. The morning classes at Beijing Language and Culture University provided strong foundations, while afternoons spent exploring the city with local students turned every interaction into a practical lesson. What made the experience extraordinary was my homestay family's warmth—their patience during dinner table conversations and their pride in my progress made China feel like home. The cultural activities, from tea ceremonies to calligraphy workshops, weren't just additions to the program—they were essential chapters in understanding the soul behind the language. I arrived with a dictionary and left with confidence, connections, and a lifelong love for Mandarin.
Hi Ananya, We're so moved to hear how your journey from a nervous "nǐ hǎo" to fluent conversations transformed not only your Mandarin but your entire perspective. It's wonderful that your homestay family made you feel at home and that the cultural activities helped you connect deeply with the language. We're thrilled you left with confidence, lasting connections, and a lifelong love for Chinese! Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
From my first stumbling attempts at tones to confidently debating with
November 22, 2025by: Spark Starlight - United KingdomFrom my first stumbling attempts at tones to confidently debating with street vendors, this program rebuilt my language abilities from the ground up. The morning intensive classes at Beijing Union University provided strong structure, while afternoons spent exploring hutongs with my language partner turned theory into living practice. What truly distinguished the experience was my homestay family's patience - their nightly coaching over steaming bowls of noodles taught me more about casual Chinese than any textbook could. The program's clever design meant every museum visit, calligraphy workshop, and temple tour served as stealth language lessons. I didn't just learn Chinese; I learned to think in Chinese, discovering how language shapes worldview. For anyone seeking genuine fluency rather than superficial proficiency, this immersion creates lasting transformation.
Hi Spark, We're thrilled to hear how this program rebuilt your language skills from the ground up and helped you discover how to think in Chinese! It's wonderful that the combination of intensive classes, homestay practice, and cultural activities created such a genuine and lasting transformation. Thank you for sharing your incredible journey to fluency. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
From stumbling over basic tones to debating current events
November 16, 2025by: Leila "Zahara" Al-Farsi - United Arab EmiratesFrom stumbling over basic tones to debating current events with my host family, this program transformed my relationship with Mandarin in just three months. The immersive environment—where every street sign, market interaction, and shared meal became a lesson—pushed me beyond textbook learning into true fluency. What surprised me most was how the cultural activities, from calligraphy to tea ceremonies, weren't just add-ons but essential pieces of the language puzzle. By the end, I wasn't just speaking Chinese—I was thinking in it.
Hi Leila, We're thrilled to hear how this program transformed your relationship with Mandarin, taking you from stumbling over tones to thinking in the language! It's wonderful that every part of the immersion—from market interactions to cultural activities—helped you achieve true fluency. Thank you for sharing your incredible progress! They told me language immersion would be intense,
November 10, 2025by: Isabella Nkosi - AustraliaThey told me language immersion would be intense, but nobody mentioned I'd dream in Mandarin by week three. My Beijing mornings began with the scent of fresh baozi from my host family's kitchen and the musical chaos of morning conversations I slowly learned to decode. At university, our teacher Ms. Li didn't just teach characters - she revealed their stories, turning each lesson into archaeological dig through culture. The real classrooms became the hutong alleys where I'd bargain for pomegranates, the parks where elderly tai chi masters would adjust my posture while correcting my tones, and the karaoke bars where my new international friends and I butchered Chinese pop songs with glorious enthusiasm. GAC didn't just teach me a language - they gave me a new lens to see the world, and I'll forever hear Beijing's rhythm in my heartbeat.
Hi Isabella, What a beautiful and vivid description of your immersion journey—we're absolutely captivated by your words. Dreaming in Mandarin by week three is the ultimate sign of deep learning! It's incredible how you absorbed the language not just in class with Ms. Li, but in the hutongs, parks, and karaoke bars, making Beijing's rhythm a part of you. Thank you for letting us be part of your transformation and for sharing such a heartfelt experience. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team

Learning Chinese at China
January 21, 2025by: Amalie Jensen - NorwayWith GoAbroadChina, I was surprised at the pace at which I was learning the Chinese language. The transformative experience and support I received during the trip was the highlight of China. Most of the lessons that I attended were easy to grasp and implement because they were based off of day-to-day scenarios. The instructors were very encouraging, meaning that they were able to get me out of my comfort zone. It was easy to practice my Chinese with the locals since we had a lot of cultural activities planned. Looking back, I can confidently say that I was able to discover parts of my personality that I had no idea existed. Best treat I’ve ever given myself was enrolling in this course and I am rather proud of myself for how much I was able to achieve in a small span of time. I was always insecure about my ability to converse in Mandarin but with the help of GoAbroadChina, that changed real quick. The skills I managed to acquire during the whole trip along with the friendships I made will always hold a very special place in my heart. GoAbroadChina gave me an experience of a lifetime and I fully believe that I will never regret this decision.

Your my bestfriend in China. My GoAbroadChina
January 07, 2025by: Shaneil Kelly - GermanyMy experience of Learning Chinese in China was unforgettable, and I did it with my best friend with GoAbroadChina. My family friends had highly recommended this program to me as it was excellently structured and they had a few contacts with whom the service was quite reliable. They were professional and supportive from the start, guiding us through the application process, and making sure we had everything we needed to feel comfortable with our journey. My experience started with the language classes that were organised very well and the teachers were made learning Chinese both effective and fun. The program also included cultural immersion activities where we were able to get a taste of some aspects of China, its rich traditions and vibrant cities, outside of the classroom. What caught my eyes of all was how low the program was in comparison to others and was quite a good deal. Each minute and every minor detail was taken care of, from accommodation to transportation and everything in between we felt comfortable and safe the entire time. Not only did we improve our Chinese but also created lifelong memories through GoAbroadChina.

January 03, 2025by: Elmer Campbell - IcelandLearning Chinese in China has always been a dream of mine, and GoAbroadChina's homestay program is making it a reality! I'm so excited to immerse myself in the language and culture by living with a Chinese family. I can already imagine myself fumbling through conversations, laughing at my own mistakes, and slowly but surely building confidence. I'm eager to explore the local markets, try delicious new foods, and maybe even learn to make dumplings with my host mom. I know it won't always be easy – there will be frustrating moments and times when I feel completely lost. But I'm ready for the challenge, and I know that living with a host family will be an incredible way to learn and grow. Plus, the homestay program is a much more affordable option than living in a dormitory, which is a huge relief for my budget. I can't wait to start this amazing adventure!"

GoabroadChina is a really good program
December 04, 2024by: Sofia Orrego - Chilehello my name is Sofia .I recommend GoabroadChina because it was a really good program they helped me with a lot of things . For example when I arrived to the airport they help me they pick me up, they help me with the SIM card they bring me to my hotel, they talk to the people from the hotel so they help me with that then they also offer me to walk me to the school so I can see the school . The Chinese classes were really really good and the job they get me was also very fun it was all I wanted ,so I really recommend working in in some company that GoabroadChina offer.

I had a very happy time in Beijing
November 19, 2024by: Yann Garrett - FranceMy name is JeJean Pirenne I joined the GoAbroadChina program and participated from the beginning of January to the 19th of February. My experience was very good. My host family was very nice. They mentioned that their screening process is very rigorous, and I believe them because the host family was really good. I can't say anything bad about them, so that was a very good point. I was very satisfied as well with my Chinese lessons. GoAbroadChina enrolled me in one of the most well-known and recommended private Chinese learning schools in Beijing, and it was very, very useful. I learned a lot of Chinese. I started learning Chinese when I was about 15 or 16 years old, mainly because my dad encouraged me to do it. But I ended up really liking it, so I continued doing it. I think the value lies in several things. Obviously, there's a practical value in helping with your future career. That aside, it's also really fun. It really exercises your brain more than any other language, I think, because of all the visual recognition you have to use and all the characters you have to learn. It's a really rewarding experience, and even though it's hard, if you stick to it and your Chinese slowly improves, it can be very rewarding. GoAbroadChina has always been very helpful, particularly Zoe. She was always there if I needed anything, answered my questions, and made me feel very welcomed and safe. I would certainly recommend GoAbroadChina to anyone who wants to spend time in China, learn Chinese, or have an internship. I recommend GoAbroadChina to anyone.

I strongly recommend GoabroadChina to you
November 15, 2024by: Tamara Adly - EgyptI am Tamara from Egypt, and I just graduated from college. I'm here with GoAbroadChina internship program and Chinese language classes. It's been really great until now. It was very, very welcoming, especially when it's a new environment and I feel out of place. GoAbroadChina working staff are doing a lot to make me feel comfortable and at home, and they're really really great at that. I wish I had known a little more information before coming into China, since I had problems with email, but they've briefed me here, and they're waiting for me with a package at the airport, which helps a lot. I would definitely recommend GoAbroadChina to all my classmates and other people who are looking for an adventure and really want to immerse themselves in a new environment.

I'd like to express my thanks to GoabroadChina and the working staff
November 11, 2024by: Tomos BL - United StatesI've been here for one month now that sadly today's my last day that I study at GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University. Chinese language is a fun language to learn and I would recommend anyone to try. I'd like to express my thanks to GoabroadChina and the working staff Jane, she's been extremely caring. Further my advice for anyone coming to China is to totally embrace this unique GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University. The Chinese course has come very well. Actually once you put yourself in that position and it would went well. The GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University is very caring and accommodating and if anyone has any concerns, the program faculty will sort it. I visited JiangSu province except Shanghai. I would advise people to visit different provinces as you will see all of the different Chinese cultures because there isn't just a single Chinese culture.

For the best way to experience China, go to GoabroadChina
November 07, 2024by: Alan Wang - ArgentinaHi, I am Alan. I'm currently enrolled in the GoAbroadChina Chinese language program. I’ve been in Beijing for two weeks. I’d like to talk about the features of the program. You will have an excellent experience because the GoAbroadChina staff will arrange airport pickup, homestay, and weekend activities, and accommodate class schedules to fit your needs. They can also arrange internship opportunities if you're seeking employment in China. They have access to the best schools for the best language program experience. Classes are structured small so students get more one-on-one time to enhance their language experience. GoAbroadChina staff can accommodate cultural and arts-related activities such as calligraphy, and Beijing Opera. They can arrange tours to sightseeing places like the Great Wall. Some interesting aspects of China are language, culture, and history. China is an amazing place to see generations of architecture, old to Modern, such as the Beijing Huong towns. The most interesting program experience is to allow students to experience Chin's daily life such as living with a family, cooking or even riding the subway station. For the best way to experience China, go to GoabroadChina

GoAbroadChina language program at Chinese university with homestay in 2024

GoAbroadChina-One month small group Chinese class with homestay
November 06, 2024by: Will Reade - AustraliaI would just like to thank the team ------ GoabroadChina , it was quite daunting coming to a new country by myself because I didn't speak chinese,I didn't know anybody,I didn't know what areas to live ,so that's why I deeply valued the insight and input that they gave. One of the big things I was worried about ,it was the people that I was living with, I was very grateful that the family that I'm with is incredibly friendly , loving and caring ,they feel like they are my Chinese family and they've helped make my experience even more memorable .The Chinese classes are both enjoyable fun and also a great learning experience, I've been able to learn Chinese quite quickly and become semi- proficient in it and it has been an exciting experience. This another area of concern I had before coming was if I was able to make connections and friends , because I feel like that's a big part especially coming by yourself it's important but GoabroadChina was able to connect me with other like-minded individuals and I even joined a running club which I thought was pretty cool so all in all I would 100% recommend GoabroadChina and their services to both my friends my family and you.

A good time with GAC
April 26, 2024by: Jakson Walker - GermanyHey everyone, I'm Jackson Walker from Germany, and I'm 23 years old. This spring, I arrived in Beijing, China, because I wanted to learn Chinese. After seeing an ad from GAC online, I got in touch with them. Their service is really awesome; they handled everything from my visa to organizing my Chinese classes, taking care of every little detail. The accommodation GAC arranged for me is great—I really like the room. It's clean and tidy, with all the basic amenities like a good shower, which is super important to me. They even sorted out all the essentials I needed, including a subway card and a phone card ready for me right after I landed. They also patiently showed me how to use them. Whenever I ran into any issues living in Beijing, GAC was there to help me out. People here are incredibly warm and friendly, and through GAC’s Chinese language program, I’ve made a lot of friends from different countries. Our Chinese teachers are very professional, and by also practicing with my Chinese friends regularly, my Mandarin has improved quickly. I really appreciate all the help from GAC. For those of you who want to come to China, I highly recommend getting in touch with GAC. They'll make your trip to China a breeze.

Like many other parents of a high school student, I was worried that first about our son being in Beijing. After my son finished the program, I am very happy to say that GAC has very safe and well-organized arrangement, all of the teachers both the university and through the one on one tutoring curriculum that set up from GAC were excellent. The host family was nice and took care of Kyle a lot. We are happy to recommend GoAbroadChina language programs for high school students in China.

China Internship program- I had a great time
January 13, 2024by: Jia Ming Zheng - United StatesI used this program to find an architecture internship in Shanghai for the summer. They helped me set up interviews, making the process fast. The people at the company were great, and I'll forever cherish the memories with them. My goals included learning Chinese and exploring the city, and they assisted by finding nearby Chinese lessons and providing a guide. Initially nervous about having someone show me around, it turned out to be a great experience. We, both K-pop enthusiasts of the same age, explored ktown, enjoyed great food, and took nice photos. It was an amazing experience, and I wish I could be back in the city. As a Chinese-American, I was initially scared about not speaking Chinese well in a new city, but this program enhanced my experience. I fell in love with Shanghai and it’s architecture!

Studying Chinese
February 27, 2013by: ChristopherGo Abroad China (GAC) always provides the sensation of security for its participants. There is always someone to turn the moment you need something in China. GAC allows participants to be selective in their accommodation options and it is thanks to this organization that I immersed myself into Chinese culture and rapidly benefited from improving my Mandarin with both roommates and families. The diverse background of the GAC participants additionally helped me improve communication skills as well as teamwork on complicated assignments. On the weekends, making friends through GAC proved to be rewarding as we bonded so much during the excursions and interactive activities like massaging, and cooking hotpot. These are skills that open up the challenging but worthwhile experiences in the real world that studying at a university cannot accommodate. GAC provided supplementary help in learning Mandarin my assigning me a tutor. We would meet regularly in a cafe in order to maximize the language-learning environment since I could order food in Chinese at the same time. If the student's expectations do not directly correspond to those proposed by the tutor, GAC offers flexibility in which changing a tutor would not be problematic. Assuming that the participant takes Mandarin, resides with a Chinese-speaking host family, and has exposure to the cuisine, everything would seem to be in order. What else could still be missing? GAC fills in the last missing puzzle piece by inviting students to take part at numerous excursions and cultural workshops offered on a weekly basis. Whether it be climbing at the Ming Wall, or learning the ins and outs of a Chinese massage, participants will enthusiastically choose cultural electives that cover an extensive realm of preferences. Those passionate about history and gardening will enjoy the Summer Palace, while those who are more action-oriented will enjoy Tai Chi. Without GAC, interns would abound with confusion in a part of the world that may initially seem unfamiliar to them. Nevertheless, the help of such a reliable agency around the clock engages participants in an adventure that they will treasure for a lifetime. Remember, whatever a student puts into the experience is what he or she takes out of it,and those who take advantage of GAC will find a very rewarding experience that will remain indented in their memories beyond their stay in China.
It's awesome!!
February 24, 2013by: SavaisI arrived without speaking a word of Chinese. Simple daily matters were a struggle. In such situations, Go Abroad China staff gave me the assistance and guidance I needed. In addition the social events and parties organized by GAC were an excellent way of meeting people. Chinese Immersion
February 24, 2013by: JulieI thought the GAC program offered an ideal mix of exactly what I was looking for: a way to improve my Chinese while experiencing China. Tutors were available in the afternoon, to review your lessons or help with any language questions you might have. The two Language Exchange Partners with whom I was paired up with by GAC were excellent. We often met up for dinners and other excursions, giving me the opportunities to converse and learn Chinese outside of the classroom, as well as to get a feel for how locals live.

Chinese Immersion and one-on-one program
February 22, 2013by: JoshShortly after finishing a year of intensive Chinese, I entered a 4-week Homestay and one-on-one study program with Go Abroad China. The teaching and Homestay combined were excellent, and my fluency in Chinese improved significantly even in such a short period. The progress was in no small part due to the high quality of GAC' s teaching staff. The teaching was excellent. All the teachers gave a strong impetus to my learning.

GAC Chinese Immersion
February 21, 2013by: VimalI joined Go Abroad China's Mandarin Immersion Program in Beijing in summer 2010. It was a fantastic experience and my Chinese speaking skills and my understanding of the culture improved tremendously! I was in Beijing from June 1st until June 27th. I was living with a Chinese family just outside of Central Beijing and had a private tutor for four hours a day. The home and family were very nice. The apartment was spacious, air conditioned, and I was given my own room and bathroom. Whenever I was at home, I would eat my three meals with the family. The neighborhood was very very safe. I had no issues or worries at all. I asked to be in a neighborhood where not much English was spoken, so I would be able to practice my Chinese. I was living in a community of 30,000 Chinese, where I made many friends during my stay. GAC provided me with exactly what I asked for. Living with a Chinese family was a fantastic experience, because I enjoy adapting to new cultures. It can be a little challenging adapting to all their customs and habits for the first few days, but my family was very accommodating. I certainly recommend it over a hotel, because you get to practice speaking Chinese over meals and throughout the day. My family made me feel very comfortable from the moment I walked in, and involved me in all their plans and discussions, so I really enjoyed the experience. The biggest challenge I faced was getting used to some of the food, because I had never eaten/ heard of some of their dishes before. But once they figured out my preferences and habits, they really did their best to accommodate me. I had 20 hours of Chinese language course and I think 20 hours is plenty because that’s 4 hours each weekday. After 3, I started to lose focus because they are private classes are kind of intense. I would not suggest taking more. After class, I suggest you go practice Chinese on the street with random people, who are all super friendly. That really helps too, because you aren't prepared for the conversation or the accent. Random people used to come up tome and make conversation all the time. GAC staffs are extremely helpful. And the private teacher is too. Tutoring helped me tremendously. Especially with my pronunciation, because that was very weak before.
Really enjoy in China with GAC
April 16, 2012by: CathrynI joined GAC Mandarin Immersion Program in Beijing in summer 2010. It was a fantastic experience and my Chinese speaking skills and my understanding of the culture improved tremendously. Also, the GAC staff are extremely helpful. And the private teacher is too. The program coordinator was always there to help me whenever I needed it.
