Program Overview

Join our medical research program in the Dominican Republic! It introduces students to the concepts, lifecycle, and execution of research topics and models. We're looking for motivated individuals to join us for 5 days working with local medical doctors for on-the-ground data collection. Then, you spend 15 weeks working remotely alongside an experienced Medical Doctor Research Advisor on your chosen research project, ultimately publishing the results. You'll gain valuable research skills, work with a diverse team, and make a real difference in an underprivileged community.

Global Health Leaders is an international healthcare education and research firm focused on advancing accessible healthcare around the world. GHL interns and volunteers help provide essential medical services in developing countries with families living in extreme poverty and without access to healthcare services. They also research ways to improve healthcare worldwide.

Program Highlights

Join a hybrid medical research program combining 15 weeks of online study and research and 1 week of collaboration with local doctors in the Dominican Republic.
Be listed as an author in cutting-edge medical research, which will be submitted for publication in top medical journals.
Gain a lifetime cultural experience as you spend 8 days in the beautiful Dominican Republic, enjoying vibrant Caribbean culture and fantastic weather!
Earn 60 clinical hours, including 40 hours of hands-on patient care and 20 hours of clinical training.
Earn 160 internship hours on YOUR schedule, with the online component completed independently and includes flexible weekly meetings.

Ensuring a collaborative and respectful approach, our engagements are guided by local leadership, which may include mayors, pastors, unofficial community figures, or law enforcement. This commitment to community involvement and leadership presence is integral to meaningful connections and much-needed healthcare services.

How do you ensure the safety of student interns?

Ensuring the safety of our participants is our utmost priority at Global Health Leaders. To achieve this, all students and staff stay together in carefully selected accommodations, typically secure properties with features such as gated entries and surveillance cameras. We collaborate with trusted transportation providers, and our team coordinates closely with local leadership and the community.

What kind of training will an intern receive?

Our students embark on a comprehensive training journey at Global Health Leaders, equipping them with the skills and knowledge essential for impactful healthcare service. This journey spans seven weeks of live online sessions covering diverse topics such as clinic workflow, vital signs, cultural competency, and more. The training involves engaging with seasoned professionals, including medical doctors and public health experts.
