Volunteer in Halle (Saale)

This is a great volunteer program in Germany. I finally was able to learn German and meet a lot of new people. My students were great and always eager to learn and practice their English skills. Halle (Saale) is a great place to live in, it is only around an hour from Berlin. The Excellence center in Europe is in a good location, it is only 3 minutes from the marketplace. The Excellence Center staff put me with a good host family who helped me with my German immensely. I hope to come back to Halle (Saale) in the future. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to study German, meet new people and live the daily life in Germany.
My short stay in Germany

I taught English to some refugees from Syria. I really had a good time there. Mohammed, my Arabic teacher at the center was great, he introduced me to the Arabic language in an interesting way, I was able to speak some Arabic words with the people I met at the Center. Rafat, the Excellence Center coordinator did a great job in welcoming and letting me feel home in Halle. Thank you guys so much for everything and I wish to come back to Halle in the future.

My name is Daan from the Netherlands, I am 23 years old, I graduated last year from the University of Amsterdam. One week ago, I was in Germany volunteering at the Excellence Center in Europe in the city of Halle (Saale). I stayed with the most generous Arabic family (Salman family), they were so friendly, especially their son Ahmed. I helped many Arabic and refugee students in conversational English, I did not have any experience in teaching before but it was fun to try it. I learned a lot during my time there. Additionally, I have taken Arabic with my teacher Mohamed, he was a big help to me learning the Arabic language especially when it comes to grammars (which is hard btw) but he did his best and it was totally a great experience. I recommend this volunteer program to those who want to visit Germany and meet the refugees as well as local people. IT IS WORTH IT ☺

As an aspiring International lawyer, I have always been looking for chances to go abroad to widen my perspective and engage with new people. I wanted to use the summer break the best I can, and wanted to step out of my comfort zone. I am familiar with the culture of south and east Asia, so I was targeting Europe, a continent that I didn’t have much information about. I was delighted when I found out that the internship was located in Germany, a country I have never been to. I was also excited because I have many friends in university who are Germans, and also because I had just recently started learning the German language. I thought it was a good fit for my interests, so I decided to go abroad for the summer.
