La Escuela de la Montaña is a socially responsible, nonprofit language school in the western highlands of Guatemala. The Mountain School sits on an old coffee plantation and is surrounded by lush rainforest mountains; hence, the name of our campus. We opened our doors to international learners in 1997 and our School is part of Hermandad Educativa, together with PLQ – our sister school in Quetzaltenango. We provide affordable yet high-quality Spanish language instruction, with the ultimate goal of generating income for the local communities and funding for local social projects. All our instructors have undergone training and certification in teaching Spanish as a second language, while our staff is from the Mayan communities of Nuevo San Jose and Fátima.
