CIEE High School Academy in Kyoto
Program Overview
Study with a small group of American students in Kyoto, spending a semester abroad living and learning in the heart of historic Japan. Spend a semester abroad following U.S.-aligned high school classes with a cohort of American students. Our hybrid model allows you to customize your schedule with in-person instruction at the Kyoto CIEE Center and online courses through ASU Prep Global. Live with a welcoming host family, connect with your cohort, and boost your Japanese skills while staying on track with your high school’s graduation requirements. Make every moment count in Kyoto. Wander through lantern-lit alleys past centuries-old shrines, explore a buzzing shopping arcade, or walk through a serene bamboo forest. Do I need to speak Japanese to participate in this program?
While previous Japanese language experience is not required, please note that all classes will be taught in Japanese. If you do not have prior language experience, we encourage you to select the private school option, which will provide you with additional language support. If you don’t select the private school option, you will be expected to start learning Japanese before you arrive in the program.
