Surf, Conservation & Sustainable Tourism Internship

Build practical conservation skills and explore sustainable tourism in Uvita, a coastal community on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Through Beyond Travels, you’ll gain hands-on experience with local organizations, learn from people working in conservation and tourism, and experience daily life in one of Costa Rica’s biodiverse coastal regions.

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE & PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

Spend three days per week alongside park rangers and staff at Marino Ballena National Park, supporting trail maintenance, beach cleanups, environmental education, visitor engagement, and digital outreach. Gain insight into protected area management while developing practical skills in conservation and environmental communication.

For two days per week, support a local surf hostel through guest services, marketing, gardening, and community projects. Explore how local businesses contribute to community livelihoods and sustainable tourism while building communication, hospitality, and outreach skills.

CULTURAL IMMERSION & COASTAL LIVING

Live with a local host family, practice Spanish through everyday interactions, and build a deeper understanding of Costa Rican culture and community life. You’ll also have opportunities to develop your surfing skills with access to surfboards and the beach.
