There are six official Mount Kilimanjaro routes, namely Umbwe, Shira, Machame, Rongai, Lemosho, and Marangu. Each route boasts a distinct feature and provides a different perspective of Kilimanjaro. The Shira and Lemosho routes begin on the West of the mountain.

The Marangu route is the easiest, quickest, oldest, and one of the most popular. Due to its accessibility and mass appeal, the route is known as the coca-cola route. Thus, you will never feel isolated or alone. It is the only route that allows you to sleep in huts. The area has the most luxurious accommodation. The huts contain cold running water, solar-powered lights, mattresses, and a bunk bed. 

Your ascent starts at Marangu Gate up the Kilimanjaro’s southeast side, along the beautiful moorland and forest before heading to Mawenzi’s south. You will cross the desolate saddle to Kibo Hut, then climb up the summit on scree slopes to Gilmans Point and up to the Uhuru Peak.

The descent will be back down Marangu Gate, which will be completed in six days, paving the way for good acclimatization.
