About African Biodiversity Research Expeditions

African Biodiversity Research Expeditions (ABRE), a subsidiary of African Ecological Conservation Projects, provides opportunities for volunteers and small student groups to gain hands-on experience in practical field research and biodiversity monitoring within African protected and wildlife areas.

Through its programs, ABRE supports and funds research and long-term conservation initiatives, helping to build biodiversity inventories, monitor ecosystems, and inform effective conservation management. Participants work alongside experienced researchers and conservation professionals, contributing to real-world scientific projects while developing valuable field skills and a deeper understanding of African ecosystems.

Current projects are based in northern and eastern South Africa, with plans to expand into southern Mozambique. By combining research, education, and community engagement, ABRE aims to strengthen conservation efforts and promote the sustainable protection of Africa’s rich biodiversity.
