What inspired you to work for the University of Economics, Prague?

I graduated from the university and then left for business. After a year I came back as a Ph.D. student. I had the opportunity to meet inspiring people and still have the chance to work with young and talented students. It is great to see them grow.

Why do you do what you do?

It is a challenging job that combines different elements. The first one is teaching, which to a certain extent is similar to theater. You must be excellently prepared every day in every way. Second, I like the contact with young people. This helps me to think differently. And third, my colleagues are great!

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part would be helping to move the institution forward, not only in terms of education but also in terms of marketing and communication. I also like collaborating with my colleagues a lot.

How do you use your education and international background in your current role?

The term international is crucial for my position. Almost everything I do has a certain international context.  I am responsible for international programs as well as international advertising. There is also an International Research Center in my department. And all of my teaching is in English.

What makes the University of Economics, Prague special?

From my point of view, it would be our strong focus on internationalization. We try to be as international as possible in every aspect. This concerns our study programs, students, research, and staff.

What makes your organization easy to market to potential participants?

It definitely is our location. We are lucky to be placed in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Prague. It attracts not only millions of tourists every year but also many young people striving for a high quality education. Second, our competitive tuition fee is highly competitive.

What is your organization’s mission and how do you continue to work toward it?

The mission of the International Relations department is to develop education and knowledge in the field of International Economics and Political Relations and to provide internationally recognized study programs based on critical thinking and openness, personal and societal responsibility, and commitment to lifelong learning.

Personally, I try to contribute especially in terms of international study programs. We work on offering high quality programs for students coming from all around the globe.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?

We hope that they get a sound combination of new skills and knowledge. They should be well equipped for management positions and gain some good contacts. Also, they will have strong personal integrity.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?

Studying abroad is one of the best ways to experience new cultures. I see the main benefit in broadening your scope of understanding. Understanding other languages and cultures may help you gain another perspective in terms of understanding difficult situations and problems.

Why do you think learning a new language is important?

We say that if you speak a foreign language, it multiplies your personality. As I mentioned, you can only benefit from this. You are more open to diversity and different opinions. And also you can make more friends!

What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?

I would definitely recommend it! People can only benefit from this. They learn how to survive without parents, how to live in an unknown country or location, and they meet interesting people. This will boost their employment opportunities for sure.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

I understand meaningful travel as purposeful travel. There must be a certain purpose for travel, not just for fun. Examples include visiting family, research projects, or education. Though many aspects of our life today have been replaced by distant communication, personal connections will forever remain more important.
