What inspired you to work for the American University of Beirut-Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo)?

Being a graduate of the American University of Beirut (AUB) myself, coming to AUB Mediterraneo feels like a homecoming of sorts. It's an honor to be part of the AUB legacy and contribute to this exciting new chapter in its history.

In addition, being on a new campus allows me to be innovative and forward-thinking. We're not bound by tradition, and that opens doors to create a truly special educational experience. I thrive in environments that encourage new ideas and approaches.

Why do you do what you do?

AUB Mediterraneo is a groundbreaking initiative. We have the opportunity to shape the future of global education. Being part of that process, and contributing to a more inclusive and dynamic educational landscape, is incredibly motivating.

Every day, I get to help students embark on a life-changing educational journey and witness the positive impact of intercultural exchange. That's why I find this work so inspiring and rewarding.

I am looking forward to our first Commencement Exercises! I bet it will be an emotional day! My work gives me a sense of purpose knowing that our job is valuable, we are literally building a better future, one student at a time.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is undoubtedly the opportunity to connect with students from all around the world and facilitate their academic journey in a culturally diverse environment. In addition, it is witnessing the boundless potential and creativity of this generation of students.

They never fail to amaze me with their resilience, passion for learning, and eagerness to embrace new perspectives. Whether it's through their academic achievements, their contributions to campus life, or their efforts to create positive change in their communities, each student brings a unique spark that continuously inspires me.

We understand that AUB Mediterraneo was established as part of AUB’s vision of becoming a more global, diverse, and inclusive university. As a graduate of AUB, what does it mean for you to be a part of an intrepid new endeavor as you put down roots in the eastern Mediterranean region?

Absolutely. As a proud graduate of the AUB, being part of AUB Mediterraneo feels like an incredible opportunity on multiple levels. I understand firsthand the power of education to bridge cultural divides and foster mutual understanding.

AUB Mediterraneo's location in Pafos positions us perfectly to create a space where students from all over the world can learn from each other and the rich heritage of the eastern Mediterranean. It's truly an intrepid new endeavor, and I'm energized by the prospect of putting down roots here and helping AUB Mediterraneo flourish in this vibrant region

What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Challenge yourself to try new things, meet new people, and explore unfamiliar places. Growth often happens outside your comfort zone.

What makes AUB Mediterraneo special?

AUB Mediterraneo stands out for several reasons that make it a truly special place to pursue a study abroad experience. As the twin campus of the prestigious American University of Beirut, we bridge the gap between a rich academic heritage and the thrill of a new endeavor. Our location in Pafos, Cyprus, creates a vibrant crossroads of cultures.

Students will be immersed in the region's historical richness as Pafos harmoniously combines diverse elements. It's a cosmopolitan oasis surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and captivating historical landmarks. With its enchanting turquoise waters, rugged mountains, and rich cultural legacy, Pafos is a captivating journey through ancient myths and history.

Our diverse international student body comprised of 12 different nationalities from across the world amplifies this unmatched learning environment.

Why should someone choose AUB Mediterraneo over competitors?

When it comes to choosing a study abroad program, AUB Mediterraneo offers several compelling advantages. We leverage the established reputation and academic rigor of the American University of Beirut. Students get a globally recognized education while being part of an exciting new chapter.

AUB Mediterraneo isn't just about studying abroad – it's about personal and academic transformation. If students are looking for a study abroad program that offers a unique blend of academic excellence, cultural immersion, and a supportive community, then AUB Mediterraneo stands out as the perfect choice.

What is AUB Mediterraneo’s mission and how do you continue to work toward it?

AUB Mediterraneo orients students towards service with its liberal arts model of higher education and experiential learning opportunities. As the International Officer, I ensure that our students are ready to be critical thinkers and responsible global citizens by participating in community services such as beach clean-ups and partnering with the city of Pafos for civic engagement and volunteering opportunities.

What do you hope students take away from your programs?

First and foremost, I hope students develop a broader worldview, appreciate the richness of cultural diversity, and gain the skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with people from different backgrounds.

In addition, I hope students cherish the memories they will create here at AUB Mediterraneo and build a strong network of international peers.

Ultimately, I want AUB Mediterraneo to be a transformative experience for our students. We want them to leave here not only with a world-class education, but also with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective to thrive in an interconnected world.

How do you help support students?

As the International Officer at AUB Mediterraneo, supporting our students throughout their study abroad journey is a top priority. AUB Mediterraneo fosters a supportive environment for study-abroad students.

From pre-departure guidance to 24/7 emergency support, advisors, social events, and counseling services ensure a smooth transition, academic success, and cultural immersion.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?

Overcoming the challenges of navigating a new culture builds resilience and self-reliance. People will gain a newfound confidence in their ability to handle unfamiliar situations and a sense of accomplishment from successfully adapting to a new environment.

Traveling abroad often leads to unforgettable experiences and meaningful connections with people from different cultures. These friendships and memories can be a source of joy and enrichment for years to come.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

It's about growth and personal transformation, not just accumulating experiences or collecting souvenirs. It's a chance to challenge your perspectives, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the world and yourself.

Meaningful travel sparks a curiosity that continues long after you return home. It motivates you to learn more about the cultures you have and will encounter and inspires you to integrate those learnings into your own life.
