What inspired you to work for the American University of Beirut — Mediterraneo?
The American University of Beirut—Mediterraneo in Pafos Cyprus is the twin campus of the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon. An internationally recognized university with significant and outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
As an academic, I was inspired by the long history of the university having roots back in 1866, the excellent reputation, as well as the numerous opportunities for professional development and growth.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?
They develop as people and become more independent and open-minded. Furthermore, it improves the well-being and overall quality of life. All important aspects for successful development and growth.
Never lose the opportunity to travel abroad, meet new people, open your horizons, and engage actively with new cultures and traditions. Why do you think learning a new language is important?
Learning a new language enables individuals to develop critical thinking skills and communication skills. Furthermore, it’s a great opportunity to learn in more depth about the culture, traditions, and a way to navigate your chosen country. Thus, I encourage all students to choose a language course during their studies since this will help them tremendously in their academic performance and well-being.
As an academic, every year I observe a significant improvement in students who choose to learn a new language. Their writing skills are improved because they learn how to think critically and also, they feel more confident in their presentations. Learning a new language, it’s always an enjoyable experience combining both fun and professional development.
What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?
My advice is to consider both location and university. Students need to feel comfortable and safe, as well as to receive a high-quality education enabling them to succeed in life and grow as individuals.
Our new campus in Pafos offers both a great location and an excellent academic environment. Students receive constant help on any aspect, they feel free to contact academics and staff. They have numerous opportunities to engage in several activities like sports, trips, and educational visits.
What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Discover the world by myself, discuss with locals about history, culture, traditions, and learn a few words from their language. Last but not least, to create lifetime memories.
