What inspired you to work for Peace Boat - GET Universal?
Peace Boat aligns with my belief in intercultural communication. Onboard, I can teach languages and also speak Japanese! Meeting students, passengers, and friends from all around the world is very fulfilling and inspiring! I had a fantastic experience on board and decided to return for full-time work!
Describe a typical day at work.
On the ship, life can be very busy! Teaching or supervising GET lessons, organising and hosting onboard events, such as Speech Festivals or Project Presentations, and attending onboard presentations. And... of course, many meetings! In between activities, I enjoy eating food at the buffet or strolling around the deck while listening to music!

Watching the ocean!
Why do you do what you do?
I enjoy working in the Tokyo office. So, I am able to live and work in Japan. Everyone in the GET office is very kind, like a family, and I feel comfortable here! I also enjoy travelling, so I often look forward to returning to life on the ship, travelling to many interesting countries, and making friends from all around the world!
What advice would you give your pre-travel self?
I always tell myself to do my best with the job and enjoy meeting new people. There are many interesting things to learn and places to go in the world - there are endless possibilities! Of course, I need to remind my "pre-travel self" not to forget necessary items, like plug adaptors, charging cables, and USB sticks!

Amazing ports - Easter Island!
Why should someone choose Peace Boat - GET Universal over competitors?
Peace Boat is a unique experience! Living together in a multicultural environment for almost 4 months, I made friends from all around the world. It is a rare chance to teach at sea, while simultaneously organising events, learning from guest speakers, and sharing your own hobbies, interests, and passengers on and off stage! It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
What is your organization's mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?
Peace Boat's mission is to build a global culture of peace, human rights, and sustainability by organizing educational voyages on a ship, which serves as a floating university and a platform for intercultural communication and activism. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the organization focuses on disarmament, climate action, youth engagement, and ocean conservation, working to create connections between people, raise awareness about global issues, and promote peace and coexistence worldwide.

Amazing GET teachers - 117 team!
What do you hope participants take away from your programs?
We hope that students of the GET Programme (Peace Boat's onboard English and Spanish language school) are able to learn practical or useful task-based language that they can use while onboard and at ports to enable them to communicate with local people, passengers or other people they may meet on their travels. Of course, we hope that the GET Programme will enhance their overall voyage experience and intercultural communication!
Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?
Experiencing other cultures firsthand helps you understand different beliefs, customs, and perspectives, promoting greater empathy, respect, and tolerance for diverse ways of life. Peace can be fostered through the sharing of ideas through global communication, the experiencing of cultures, and the understanding of different perspectives. This is why everyone should travel as much as they can!

Onboard GET lessons and events!
What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Travel provides unique, firsthand experiences and creates valuable, lifelong memories and stories to share. The unique experiences and challenges of traveling can lead to profound moments of self-reflection, helping you to learn more about yourself. Interacting with locals and navigating unfamiliar situations enhances your communication skills and ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.
