What inspired you to travel abroad?

I wanted to learn about a different culture and experience a different form of independence and living on my own.

Why did you choose the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT)?

I chose American College of Thessaloniki because it was the most approachable school. Every time I had questions during the process I was applying, I always had a prompt response within hours. Recruiters at ACT were really devoted to their job, with every response they always gave me the option to give them a call at any time for further assistance.

What was your favorite part about Greece?

The people, the food, the landmarks, it is really hard to choose only one thing when answering this question. Thessaloniki was the best place ever. Everyone made you feel welcome and the food is outstanding here. There is also very rich history in Thessaloniki that I loved learning about.

What made your experience abroad extraordinary?

Attending ACT made this trip extraordinary. The professors and staff made me feel very welcome. They also gave me very helpful tips on how to navigate Thessaloniki and different cities throughout Europe.

What type of support did the local program staff provide you with?

The staff was always available whenever I needed them. They are extremely knowledgeable and really want you to have a memorable experience in Thessaloniki. The local staff goes above and beyond.

Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.

The days I had classes were pretty routine such that I would hang out with my greek friends during and after classes. I took the bus often to travel to different places.

What did you enjoy doing in your free time?

I loved attending the farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The fruit is amazing in Thessaloniki and it was very affordable.

What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?

I stayed in a studio apartment. I loved living with the locals in Thessaloniki rather than living on campus. This helped me immerse myself in the Greek culture.

What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?

I wish I spent more time in Thessaloniki rather than traveling to different cities during the weekends. I feel like there are still areas that I had not visited because I was booked for the weekend. From what I have witnessed during my time there, there really is no place like Thessaloniki.

Would you recommend ACT to other students? Why?

I would recommend this program to people in a heartbeat. Thessaloniki people are truly the most kind-hearted welcoming individuals I have ever met.

What is your best piece of advice for future participants?

Be open to accepting the unfamiliar and a different way of living. Greek food is AMAZING so please try anything and everything!

Now that you're home, how has your time in Greece impacted your life?

I am a more independent individual now. I know how to make my way around unfamiliar places confidently. Studying abroad has also made me a more curious individual. Because of my experience, I have a dire desire to travel more.

What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?

I learned so much about myself while living alone in a very unfamiliar city. By the end of the program, I was more confident and very independent.

What is your favorite part about traveling abroad?

I love when I get to learn about the rich history of a culture that I am not familiar with.
