What inspired you to work for American English College?

American English College is family owned and operated. They value a high quality education along with staff and student satisfaction. I am always surprised by the amount of attention to student needs and always finding ways to make the experience better.

Describe a typical day at work.

Everyday we are greeted by our students. I speak to various partners from agents and to colleges and universities that work with us. I also help students enroll and share information about our programs.

Why do you do what you do?

I love helping students and learning about the cultures of others. I also enjoy the field of education and knowing that we are a stepping stone to helping students pursue their dreams—whether in the USA or abroad.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Seeing a student enjoy the classes, or go from zero English to full communication capabilities. It's also nice to go from speaking to a student overseas via email, or WhatsApp, to meeting them in person. It's a rewarding journey.

What are some current projects you are working on?

We are building out an influencer program, along with growing our academic partnerships. This means students can gain acceptance to a community college or university without a TOEFL score as long as they complete level 6.

What makes the American English College special?

The community at American English College is very unique. It's made up of students who really care about their education, and staff and teachers who work super hard for them. We are one big family and that family-like culture can be felt at the school.

Why should someone choose your organization over competitors?

Our courses are very targeted to help students achieve their goals. The teachers are also extensively trained on our methodology. We have two locations in Los Angeles, and for the quality education you are getting, it is a great value.

What hopes do you have for the future of American English College?

We hope to grow our student body, as well as student diversity, during this pandemic. We want to show students that study abroad is still very much alive and they can still gain a quality education without traveling to the USA.

What is your organization's mission and how do you continue to work toward it?

At American English College, our mission is to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) students with an excellent, comprehensive, and affordable education in the English language for their personal success.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?

We want students to achieve a great education through their program. We also hope it benefits them in real life and can see the real world application of their coursework.

How do you help support participants?

Student advisors who speak multiple languages are always available to assist students – no matter the need. We act as their family away from home, so we are always available to assist. Even if you are not physically here in Los Angeles, we are available 24 hours online.

Why do you think learning a new language is important?

English is the official language of business, and is spoken in most countries. It's also important when looking for jobs as it's a highly valued skill set.

What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?

Find a quality school that has great customer service. They will end up being your go-to service for most things, so it's important for you to feel like you can rely on them.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

Meeting students from other parts of the world and really immersing yourself in the culture. It's so important to understand different perspectives and see how the way of life reflects that. Also, the food and sightseeing is important!
