Description

Nestled in the Tuscan countryside, Siena is a charming medieval city located 35 miles southwest of Florence. Featuring one of the most recognizable piazzas in Europe, the Piazza del Campo, you experience first-hand the Palio di Siena when thousands of people come to witness the famous horse race that takes place every July.

Over the course of the summer, you come to know Siena's lively piazzas and winding streets. IES Abroad's Siena Summer Program offers enrollment in IES Abroad courses with a focus on Italian culture, art, and art history, housing in apartments or homestays, and field trips to interesting locations throughout Italy.

Highlights

Study the economics, socio-historical, and cultural aspects of Tuscan food by participating in cooking classes and visiting restaurants, gelato laboratories, and vineyards. Enroll in a landscape painting course or study Tuscan architecture, art, and sculpture. By combining coursework with study outside the classroom, you experience the rich cultural heritage of Tuscany first-hand.

Program Highlights
- Visit other areas of Italy unknown to tourists through field trips to destinations such as Populonia and Saturnia.
- Participate in English-taught courses with a focus on Italy, art and art history.
- Improve your Italian skills through IES Abroad language courses. Previous Italian study is not required.
- Experience Italian culture by living in homestays or in apartments with IES Abroad and Italian students.
