Costa Rica Outward Bound is an experiential education program designed to inspire and develop leadership, compassion, responsibility, respect for the environment and commitment to serve through adventure-based wilderness experiences in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.

Imagine Central America as both your classroom and playground! Semester courses take students on adventures through Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. Hike, camp, surf, raft, kayak and Scuba dive while experiencing new cultures and earning college credit. Courses run in spring, summer and fall and range from 60 to 85 days. Choose between our Tri-Country Semester, Water & Wave Semester, Leadership Semester and Summer Semester.

If you don't have a semester to spare, then create an amazing summer! Trek through jungles. Explore volcanoes. Surf ocean waves. Brave Class IV rapids. Learn to scuba dive. Or perhaps do a bit of everything! Check out our Summer Courses: Multi-Element, Surf Intensive, Volcano Exploration, and Kayak Adventure.

Highlights

Imagine... mud soaked boots drop from your weary feet to the floor of a newly erected tarp shelter. Your leg muscles sigh relief as you sprawl onto your sleeping bag. Your mind retraces the twelve miles of Costa Rican rainforest you've just crossed. You smile as you recall the troop of spider monkeys that crossed your group's path earlier that day. You are physically tired, but have found perfect peace. A change has occurred. Things that seemed overwhelming, such as the stresses and worries of everyday life are literally hundreds of miles away. Your mind is bent on the present. Whether you are surfing a big wave, rappelling a waterfall, kayaking a class III rapid, struggling through a conversation in Spanish, exploring a dark cave or summiting a volcano, all that matters is the task at hand. And as each challenge is completed, your strength and spirit grows and the worries of the world fade further and further into the distance. Before long you will return to some version of the real world, but you will do so stronger, more confident and more spirited than before. You will return to the familiar with an completely new, unfamiliar perspective.
