This volunteer program lets you do more than explore and enjoy the stunning beauty of Greece. You will help in protecting wildlife by taking part in a project aimed at the conservation and protection of endangered sea turtles on the beaches of Kefalonia. This program lets you obtain hands-on experience in field research, meet new people, and explore the Ionian Sea’s largest island. Sea turtles come up ashore on the coast of Kefalonia to reproduce and forage. They try to find ideal locations for their nests; however, natural and human threats destroy their eggs. The turtles themselves are also injured or killed after getting trapped in fishing gear, accidentally hit by boats, or swallowing garbage.
