Program Overview
To teach English in South Korea's public schools through EPIK, you need a bachelor's degree, citizenship of one of seven designated English speaking countries, and a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA certificate of at least 100 hours. Premier TEFL's 120 Hour Accredited Online TEFL Course clears that minimum.
EPIK is run by the Ministry of Education's National Institute for International Education and places teachers in February and August on one year contracts. The seven countries are Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. EPIK accepts certificates studied online, as long as the real time hours are clearly listed. Teachers work on the E-2 visa, and EPIK asks for an apostilled national level criminal record check and an apostilled bachelor's diploma, so start them early.
The 120 hour course is the starting option for Korea. For a stronger profile, the 180 hour Level 5 TEFL Diploma, Ofqual reference 610/1572/6, is the step up.
