Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a visa to volunteer, and if so, what kind?
You can use either a tourist or student visa, depending on your nationality and the regulations for your country.
Korea GapYear cannot sponsor your visa, but we can provide supporting documentation if needed. Please note that visa denial is beyond our control, and refunds are not applicable.
Do I need insurance to join this volunteer program?
We highly recommend obtaining accident, illness, and third-party liability insurance for your time abroad.
When will I receive confirmation of my volunteer placement?
After we receive all the necessary documents for your application, we will process your information and confirm availability. You will then receive a placement proposal based on your profile and interests. The confirmation process typically takes up to 8 weeks, including confirmation from the host organization.
How long does this volunteer program last?
Program lengths vary based on location, field of interest, and host organizations. The minimum duration is 8 weeks. We recommend applying well in advance, at least 2 months before your desired start date.
Do I need to speak Korean?
While we recommend at least an intermediate level of Korean or fluency in English, the more Korean you know, the more responsibilities you will be given. If you're not proficient in Korean, don't worry—attitude and openness are often more important. For advice on your language proficiency, feel free to contact us.
