Trainees teach more than 25 supervised lessons across three tiers — first with peers, then with peers acting as students, and finally with real Cambodian students — with trainer feedback after every session. Graduates leave with real classroom experience, not just a certificate. For candidates who already hold a qualifying TEFL certificate of at least 120 hours, the 3-week Fast Track Programme and the Hybrid Programme (online theory plus 3 weeks in-country) offer a faster route to the same standard of classroom-ready practice. An Excellent Introduction to Teaching Abroad
July 31, 2026by: Ashley ConnellProgram: 140-Hour In-Person TEFL Course in Siem Reap, Cambodia
I recently completed the Destination TEFL course in Siem Reap, and it was a valuable experience that gave me the confidence and practical skills to begin teaching English abroad. The course has a great balance between theory and hands-on practice. The trainer (Willie and Chy) were knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to provide constructive feedback especially with the practicums. One of the most valuable aspects was the opportunity to teach real students, which helped me put what I had learned into practice and build confidence in the classroom. The course covered lesson planning, classroom management, teaching methodology, and adapting lessons for different learner levels. I particularly appreciated the supportive learning environment, where questions were encouraged and feedback was focused on helping each trainee improve. “We celebrate mistakes” is now something I live by. One of the standout aspects of the course was the career support. From interview preparation and CV templates to personalised guidance on structuring my own CV, Willie went above and beyond to help me present myself professionally. His advice and encouragement gave me much more confidence when approaching schools and attending interviews, making the job search feel far less daunting. Beyond the classroom, the course also provided useful guidance on finding teaching opportunities and settling into life in Cambodia, making the transition into teaching abroad feel much less overwhelming. I would highly recommend Destination TEFL to anyone looking for a practical TEFL course with experienced trainers, plenty of teaching practice, excellent career support, and a genuinely supportive atmosphere. It was a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience that has prepared me well for the next step in my teaching career.
A course worth your investment and time
July 25, 2026by: Robyn Van niekerk - South AfricaProgram: 140-Hour In-Person TEFL Course in Siem Reap, Cambodia
After completing the 4-week Destination TEFL course, I can honestly say it's an experience I'd recommend to anyone interested in teaching ESL learners abroad. No matter how good an online course is, it simply can't prepare you for real classrooms and real students the way this immersive course does. When I was first deciding what to do, I also considered taking the shorter course to save some money. After speaking with Willie, I decided to invest in the full 4-week programme, and I'm so glad I did. It was worth every cent. The support starts long before you even arrive. Willie is there to answer questions, help you prepare, and make sure you feel ready. During the course, he becomes much more than an instructor. He's a mentor who genuinely wants to see you succeed. He gives honest, constructive feedback that builds your confidence rather than knocks it down. He creates an environment where making mistakes is part of learning, and instead of criticising you for them, he helps you understand them and improve. That approach not only made me a better teacher but also helped me develop the qualities that make a great teacher. The teaching practicums were one of the most valuable parts of the course. Working in local schools gave me a real understanding of different learners, their backgrounds, and the communities they come from. It's an experience you simply can't get from watching videos or reading course material, and I know it will help me when I begin teaching full-time. We also had the opportunity to take a Khmer lesson with Chy, which was an eye-opening experience. Instead of just telling us information, he showed us how powerful interactive activities are in helping students learn. Experiencing a lesson from the student's perspective was something I'll carry with me into my own classroom. Overall, Destination TEFL exceeded my expectations. It gave me practical experience, confidence, lifelong memories, and the support I needed to begin my teaching journey. If you're debating whether to do the full course, my advice is simple: trust the process and trust the course. You won't regret it.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I've been extremely privileged to have travelled to Southeast Asia for work, numerous times while I was still working in South Africa. Every time I left any Southeast Asia country after my visit, it felt like I'd left a piece of me behind. I always knew that somehow, I would be working and living in Asia.

I do what I do because I love making an impact on people starting their ESL teaching journey. I aim to not only give them a full “tool box” of ideas and activities (along with the theory behind them) but also the confidence to be successful in their next exciting adventure.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
A typical day for me starts in the office. I reply to some emails and have a briefing with other members of staff to prepare for the day. As students begin to arrive we'll have a friendly chat and answer any questions the students might have thought of. Then we'll begin our teaching day. We enjoy having lunch together and taking some off time to relax and enjoy the beautiful island. Then it's back to the classroom to complete the day!
