What inspired you to work for your organization?

I'm inspired to work for WorldStrides because my study abroad experience was challenging and life-changing. I want to help others have the best experience of their lives while studying in my hometown.

Describe a typical day at work.

On a typical workday, I go to EAFIT University in Medellín (Host-University). After greeting my colleagues from the Internationalization Office, I meet with my students for a bridging culture session. Then, WorldStrides offers them a typical lunch from the region, and we end the day with a city tour to explore the wonderful places in Medellín.

Why do you do what you do?

I work in this field because I love to help and serve people, I love to work with international students and also speak different languages during the day.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting to know my students and sharing my culture with them.

How do you use your education and international background in your current role?

I use my education and international background in my current role by applying the knowledge and skills I gained during my Master's in International Business, along with the intercultural competence developed through my time as an international student. This allows me to understand the challenges faced by international students and provide them with tailored support. My experiences in Germany and Italy help me relate to the students' perspectives, making it easier to guide them through cultural adjustments and ensure they have a meaningful and enriching experience in Medellín.

What challenges do you often face, and how do you overcome them?

The adaptation curve that students experience when arriving in a foreign country with a different culture is often challenging to navigate, so it's essential to provide them with all the support they need.

What are some current projects you are working on?

I work constantly in expanding studying abroad programs that involve Medellin as an education destiny.

What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?

Ask for help more often, take it easy, and remember that feelings of fear and not belonging can be overcome when keeping your goal in mind.

What makes ISA by WorldStrides special?

The people and the values we share as a team

Why should someone choose ISA by WorldStrides over competitors?

Students choose to travel and study with WorldStrides because of our professionalism, the fact that we have the best talent in different countries around the world, and great service during the whole process (pre-departure, while on-site, post-return).

What hopes do you have for the future of your organization?

To be recognized in Colombia for bringing the best US talent to study here.

What makes ISA by WorldStrides easy to market to potential participants?

Our embedded offices at universities in the US and host universities around the world make it easier for us and for students to connect their needs with our educational and travel solutions.

What is your organization's mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?

WorldStrides' mission is to enrich students’ lives through experiential learning and travel, providing educational programs that inspire growth, global awareness, and a lifelong passion for learning. They aim to create transformative experiences that extend beyond the classroom, helping students connect with the world, develop leadership skills, and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives. All the work that I do is focused in accomplishing that mission, and it aligns with the motto of EAFIT (Host University in Medellin): Inspire, create, and transform.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?

The experience of learning a new culture.

If you could participate in one of your organization's programs, where would you go and what would you do?

I would go to Oxford for a summer program, and I would be happy to learn about the culture and history of the UK.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?

Travel and studying abroad bring people together, introduce new languages, create new friendships, develop new skills for personal and professional life, and help build character and personality.

Why do you think learning a new language is important?

Learning a new language is crucial because it’s like opening the door to a whole new world of knowledge and possibilities. As someone once said, 'If you want to conquer a population, learn their language.

What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?

Keep your mind open

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

To learn the meaning of their culture from the locals.

What does ethical global engagement mean to you?

To do the best for the common well-being independent of culture, race, nationality, or background.

What hopes do you have for the future of international education?

To continue evolving in values and contribute to bringing peace to the world.
