What inspired you to work for Edunation?
I resonate deeply with Edunation's commitment to providing personalized support to aspiring students who want to study abroad. Just as Edunation prioritizes ensuring students receive the necessary support for their journey, I have dedicated myself to this goal throughout my career.
Being a teacher by nature, this role is incredibly fulfilling for me. It's not just about giving someone the opportunity to study abroad; it's about being part of something that will change their life forever. I cherish this profoundly and know that, in a way, it gives me a sense of purpose.
Describe a typical day at work.
A typical day at work for me is dynamic and fulfilling, centered around ensuring the smooth operation of our programs and the well-being of our team and students. My day usually begins with attending meetings, where we discuss ongoing projects, address any challenges, and plan for upcoming initiatives. These meetings help me stay aligned with our goals and ensure that we are on track with our targets.
After the meetings, I focus on checking in with my team. I believe that a supportive and cohesive team is key to our success, so I make it a point to check on their well-being and see if they need any help with their tasks. Whether it's offering guidance, providing resources, or just being there to listen, I strive to create an environment where my team feels valued and supported.
I also dedicate time to checking on our students' well-being. Ensuring that they have a positive experience and are progressing well in their programs is a top priority. This involves reviewing their feedback, addressing any concerns they might have, and coordinating with other departments to provide the best support possible.
Throughout the day, I also monitor the overall performance of our programs. This includes assessing progress, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance our offerings. By staying proactive and attentive to both our team and students, I ensure that we maintain a high standard of excellence in everything we do.
Why do you do what you do?
I am driven by a deep passion for education and the transformative power it holds. I believe that education is not just about imparting knowledge but about changing lives, opening doors to new opportunities, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. Working in education allows me to be a part of a process that profoundly impacts people's lives, offering them the chance to grow, learn, and pursue their dreams.
I am particularly motivated by the idea of helping students from diverse backgrounds achieve their goals, especially those who aspire to study abroad. Knowing that I can contribute to someone's journey toward a brighter future gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment that is unparalleled. The joy and satisfaction of seeing a student thrive, overcome challenges, and succeed are the reasons why I do what I do.
In my role, I have the opportunity to support students not only academically but also personally, guiding them through significant life transitions and helping them navigate the complexities of their educational journeys. This holistic approach to education is something I deeply value, as it allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Lastly, I do what I do because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. Every day, I am inspired by the potential of each student and motivated by the impact I can make in helping them achieve their aspirations. This commitment to education and student success is what drives me and gives my work purpose and meaning.

What is your favorite part of your job?
While I genuinely enjoy interacting with students and supporting their academic journeys, my favorite part of my job is the incredible team I have had the privilege to work with and manage. The synergy we share is truly unique; they are not only easy to collaborate with but also bring a level of creativity and enthusiasm that makes every discussion session highly productive and rewarding.
Our team dynamic is one of mutual respect and continuous learning. Every discussion we have is meaningful, and I always come away with new insights and ideas. It’s inspiring to work with individuals who are not just colleagues but also partners in fostering a positive and innovative work environment. These interactions feed my hunger for growth and knowledge, as I learn so much from their diverse perspectives and expertise.
Being part of such a cohesive and dynamic team makes the workday enjoyable and fulfilling. It's the combination of our collective energy and individual strengths that drives our success and makes my role not just a job, but a deeply rewarding experience.
How do you use your education and international background in your current role?
I have always been a teacher at heart, so stepping into my current role felt like a natural progression rather than a new challenge. My educational background as a social studies major along with my diverse experiences allow me to bring a unique perspective to my work. The most exciting aspect is the opportunity to make a global impact. Previously, I had the privilege of influencing lives on a local scale, but now I can extend that influence internationally, which is incredibly fulfilling.
Growing up, I often dreamed of having a career that could truly make a difference in people's lives. My background in social studies naturally led me to study culture, people's ways of life, and societal dynamics.
This education, combined with my experiences, equips me with a broader understanding of diverse cultures and educational systems. This understanding is invaluable in helping students navigate their paths to success across different countries. It's incredibly rewarding to interact with and learn from people of different backgrounds, enriching both my professional and personal lives.
This role allows me to merge my passion for teaching with my desire to serve a global community. It’s a realization of a childhood prayer to someday have a job that not only serves others but also brings a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment to my own life. Knowing that my efforts contribute to changing lives and opening up opportunities for students from all over the world is deeply gratifying and continually inspires me to give my best.
What challenges do you often face and how do you overcome them?
As a senior program manager, one of the key challenges I face is navigating the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of the individuals I work with, whether they are students, colleagues, or stakeholders. This diversity can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or conflicting viewpoints. However, I view this challenge as an opportunity for growth and learning.
To address this, I make a conscious effort to practice active listening. I listen carefully to each person's perspective, ask questions, and seek clarification when needed to fully understand their point of view. This approach not only helps in finding common ground but also fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone's voice is valued.
Another challenge is managing the complexity and scope of the programs I oversee, especially when it involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders and ensuring that all elements align seamlessly.
I draw inspiration from the meticulous planning and thoughtful consideration that characterized the successful moon exploration missions. Just as those missions required careful analysis and foresight, I prioritize thoughtful thinking and thorough planning in my program management. This involves considering all factors, anticipating potential issues, and developing strategic solutions to ensure that the programs run smoothly and effectively.
What are some current projects you are working on?
Right now, I'm deeply involved in managing our Pathway to Finland program. This initiative is all about preparing students thoroughly for their academic journey.
We've designed this specialized program to give students the skills and knowledge they need to successfully apply to higher education. It's a project that involves careful planning, developing the curriculum, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure everything runs smoothly and students have a great experience.
What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?
Be open to unexpected experiences and embrace the unknown. Traveling is not just about ticking off places from a list but immersing yourself in different cultures, trying new things, and meeting diverse people. Stay flexible with plans because sometimes the best moments happen when you least expect them.
Pack light, but always carry essentials like a good book or journal to capture your thoughts and memories. Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints. Most importantly, enjoy every moment and learn from every experience—it's these moments that shape your journey and broaden your perspective.

Additionally, we assess their unique situations to determine if the Pathway to Finland program aligns with their goals or if another Edunation program would better suit their needs. Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?
Traveling abroad and immersing oneself in new cultures is a transformative experience that goes beyond mere sightseeing. It's about embracing challenges and stepping outside the comfort zone, where life's greatest lessons and moments often unfold.
Each culture holds unique stories waiting to be discovered, offering profound insights into different ways of life, histories, and traditions. As someone passionate about Social Studies, I cherish the opportunity to learn from these diverse perspectives and understand how they shape societies and individuals.
Moreover, traveling teaches invaluable life skills such as adaptability, empathy, and resilience. It encourages us to appreciate diversity and fosters a deeper connection with the global community. By exploring new cultures, I believe we not only enrich our own lives but also contribute to mutual understanding and respect among people worldwide.
In today's world, marked by conflicts between nations, understanding and learning about other cultures becomes even more critical. It promotes empathy and tolerance, paving the way for dialogue and peaceful coexistence across borders. It's a continuous journey of growth, where every experience abroad becomes a part of our personal narrative, shaping us into more open-minded and culturally aware individuals.
Why do you think learning a new language is important?
Learning a new language opens doors to understanding and appreciating cultures beyond what is possible through translation alone. When I learn a new language, I embrace the opportunity to immerse myself in a different culture, gaining insights into its history, traditions, and values. This deeper understanding fosters empathy and appreciation for diversity, leading to more meaningful interactions and relationships.
In my journey of language learning, I've found that the effort to understand others' languages and cultures opens doors to new perspectives and shared experiences. It teaches me humility, patience, and resilience—qualities essential not only in language acquisition but also in navigating life's challenges with an open mind.
By embracing linguistic diversity, I believe we enrich our lives and contribute to a more harmonious world where mutual respect and collaboration thrive.
What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?
Congratulations on deciding to take this journey! Whether it's a short trip or a longer adventure around the world, it's an exciting opportunity for personal growth. Here's some practical advice to make the most of your experience:
Make sure all your documents are in order and familiarize yourself with the local laws and customs of the places you plan to visit. Travel insurance is a must, and be aware of any travel restrictions that could affect your plans. Use common sense for safety and try to blend in by learning a few basic phrases of the local language.
While becoming fluent in every language isn't necessary, knowing a few words can really enhance your interactions and help you connect with locals. Embrace the challenges and unexpected moments of your journey—they'll shape your understanding of yourself and the world.
As you navigate through uncharted waters, remember that growth often comes from facing the unknown. There will be smooth sailing and rough seas, but each experience will contribute to your personal compass—the inner guide that evolves with every challenge you overcome. Nurture this compass; it's your steady companion in navigating the uncertainties and discovering the richness of your travels.
What issues do you see in the world of international education that don’t line up with your values and expectations for mutually beneficial & educational relationships between providers/programs and the communities in which they are located within?
In the world of international education, one glaring issue that doesn't align with my values is its tendency to be overly focused on nationality. It's like saying we're all about global education, but then we restrict who can actually participate based on where they're from. That's not just hypocritical; it's missing out on the real power of education to change lives and perspectives.
Education should break barriers, not reinforce them. It's about opening doors for everyone, regardless of where they call home. When we limit access based on nationality, we're not just limiting opportunities; we're also missing out on the richness of cultural exchange and diverse viewpoints that make learning truly transformative.
Life teaches us that true growth comes from embracing diversity and learning from one another. By fostering inclusive educational relationships that transcend borders, we not only enrich our own lives but also contribute positively to the communities we engage with globally.
What does ethical global engagement mean to you?
Ethical global engagement is about approaching our interactions with the world in a manner that is respectful, mindful, and mutually beneficial. It involves recognizing the impact of our actions on others, both locally and globally, and striving to make these interactions meaningful and positive.
Similar to our personal lives, where we aim to leave places better than we found them, ethical global engagement entails understanding and appreciating diverse cultures, contributing positively to local communities, and nurturing relationships based on trust and respect.
Moreover, it requires us to navigate geopolitical complexities with sensitivity and empathy, ensuring that our engagements do not perpetuate historical injustices or inequalities. Instead, we promote dialogue, cooperation, and shared learning across borders, even in challenging times. By building bridges rather than barriers, ethical global engagement fosters mutual understanding and works toward common goals for a more interconnected world.
It's about recognizing our interconnectedness and responsibility as global citizens to contribute positively to the planet and its people, striving always to make a meaningful difference that transcends national boundaries.
What hopes do you have for the future of international education?
I envision a future for international education where diversity is celebrated, access is equitable, and knowledge transcends borders. My hope is for educational opportunities to be accessible to all, regardless of nationality or background, fostering a global community that values inclusivity and mutual respect. I aspire to see international education serve as a catalyst for positive social change, empowering individuals to address global challenges collaboratively.
In this future, educational institutions will prioritize not only academic excellence but also holistic development, nurturing students to become compassionate, informed global citizens. I envision a world where cultural exchange enriches understanding and empathy, and where students and educators alike embrace lifelong learning and innovation.
My hope is for international education to bridge divides, promote peace, and inspire individuals to contribute meaningfully to a more interconnected and compassionate world.
What qualities in program & host community relations are important to you? (And your organization?)
In our program and community relations, authenticity, open dialogue, and mutual respect are core values for me and our organization. It's important that we approach our partnerships with sincerity, ensuring that our programs contribute positively to our communities.
We believe in building relationships based on trust, where both sides benefit and learn from each other. Sustainability is also a priority, aiming for lasting impacts that uphold local cultures and environments. Our goal is to foster connections that are ethical, culturally aware, and truly impactful for everyone involved.
What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Meaningful travel, to me, is about more than just visiting new places; it's about connecting deeply with the local culture, people, and environment. It's about sharing meaningful experiences that enrich your understanding of the world and yourself.
When I travel, I seek opportunities to talk with locals, learn from their perspectives, and forge genuine bonds. It's about immersing myself in new surroundings while respecting and preserving local traditions.
Travel isn't a one-size-fits-all experience. It's a personal journey of exploration and connection. I believe in embracing diverse travel styles and experiences without judgment. Whether it's exploring bustling cities or relaxing on a beach, every travel experience has the potential to be meaningful and transformative.
Travel should be enjoyable and fulfilling for the traveler. It's an opportunity for personal growth and learning, whether you're exploring a new culture or simply taking time to relax. Every travel experience contributes to our understanding of the world and our place in it, and that's what makes it meaningful.
