What inspired you to work for Village Exchange International?
I was inspired to work with Village Exchange Ghana because its mission resonates strongly with my own values and aspirations. The organization’s focus on empowering women and communities through education, technology, and sustainable development is not only timely but essential in today’s world. I deeply believe that education and access to digital skills are powerful tools that can transform lives and break cycles of poverty. This mission aligns perfectly with my passion for creativity and digital empowerment. I see design and technology as catalysts for positive change, and working with an organization dedicated to community growth allows me to contribute meaningfully to a cause I truly care about. Being part of a team that fosters learning, innovation, and sustainable development motivates me every day to bring my best skills forward and help build stronger, more resilient communities.
I am living proof of the positive impact Village Exchange Ghana creates.
Why do you do what you do?
I do what I do because I firmly believe in the transformative power of creativity and education. Creativity opens doors to new ways of thinking, solving problems, and expressing oneself, while education provides the foundation for growth, opportunity, and independence. By helping others gain digital skills and access new opportunities, I’m not just supporting individual growth—I’m contributing to the strengthening of entire communities. When people are empowered with knowledge and practical abilities, they can improve their lives, support their families, and inspire those around them.
My work allows me to bring together my passion for design, technology, and teaching, creating a unique space where innovation meets learning. I find fulfillment in knowing that the skills I share can lead to meaningful, lasting change—whether it’s helping someone create their first digital project, guiding volunteers to make an impact, or supporting community initiatives that foster development.
At the core, I am driven by a deep desire to make a positive difference. Empowering others to realize their full potential is not just a goal but a purpose that fuels my dedication every day. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness growth, resilience, and success emerge from efforts grounded in education and creativity, and that motivates me to keep pushing forward.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is witnessing those powerful moments when someone I’m teaching or mentoring discovers their own potential and gains confidence in their abilities. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see a volunteer step up to take on leadership roles, a student grasp a new digital tool with enthusiasm, or a community member apply creativity in innovative ways to overcome challenges. These breakthroughs are not just milestones for the individuals—they represent real progress and transformation that can ripple out to impact entire communities.
Being part of this journey—supporting others as they grow, learn, and unlock new possibilities—brings me immense joy and purpose. It reminds me that the work we do is more than just imparting skills; it’s about nurturing self-belief, encouraging innovation, and fostering empowerment. Every success story, no matter how small, reaffirms why I am passionate about what I do and motivates me to keep pushing for meaningful change.
How do you use your education and international background in your current role?
I leverage my education and international background to bring a broader perspective and diverse skills to my role at Village Exchange Ghana. My educational experiences have equipped me with essential technical knowledge and critical thinking abilities, which I apply daily in teaching ICT, managing volunteers, and designing digital marketing strategies. Meanwhile, my international exposure has deepened my understanding of different cultures and global trends, allowing me to communicate effectively with diverse groups and adapt best practices from around the world to suit local needs.
This combination enables me to bridge gaps between technology, creativity, and community development, fostering innovation and inclusivity. It also helps me to approach challenges with an open mind and find solutions that are culturally sensitive and sustainable, making a stronger impact in my work.
What advice would you give your pre-travel self?
If I could speak to my pre-travel self, I would tell myself to embrace every challenge and uncertainty as a valuable opportunity for learning and growth. Travel and new experiences rarely go exactly as planned, and it’s important to be open-minded and patient through the unexpected twists and turns. Often, those moments of discomfort or surprise become the most memorable and meaningful parts of the journey.
I would remind myself to trust in my own ability to adapt and to connect genuinely with new people from different backgrounds. Stepping outside my comfort zone can be daunting, but it’s in those moments that real personal growth happens. Whether it’s navigating a new culture, learning new skills, or building relationships, each experience is a chance to expand my perspective and deepen my understanding of the world.
Most importantly, I would encourage myself to hold onto the reasons why I decided to embark on this journey in the first place—to make a positive difference, to grow both personally and professionally, and to create meaningful connections that last a lifetime. Amid all the excitement and challenges, it’s essential to stay curious, resilient, and kind to myself, knowing that every step—no matter how difficult—is part of a larger path toward becoming the person I want to be.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?
I hope participants take away more than just skills—they gain confidence, independence, and a renewed sense of possibility. Through Village Exchange Ghana’s programs, I want them to realize their own potential to create change in their lives and communities. I hope they leave equipped not only with practical knowledge in digital literacy, creativity, and leadership but also with the motivation and support to apply these skills in meaningful ways.

Whether through volunteer support, follow-up programs, or partnerships with local organizations, we are committed to walking alongside participants as they take steps toward greater independence and positive change.
Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?
Traveling abroad and experiencing new cultures is especially important when visiting a place like Ghana because it offers a unique opportunity to engage firsthand with rich traditions, history, and vibrant communities that you can’t fully understand through books or media alone. Ghana’s diverse cultures, warm hospitality, and dynamic blend of tradition and modernity provide a powerful experience that broadens your perspective and deepens your appreciation for cultural diversity.
By immersing yourself in Ghanaian culture, you gain insights into different ways of life, values, and social systems, which fosters empathy and respect for people from backgrounds different from your own. It also challenges any preconceived notions or stereotypes and encourages personal growth as you navigate new environments and build genuine connections.
Experiencing Ghana’s culture firsthand can inspire creativity, open doors to new ideas, and even motivate you to contribute to local communities in meaningful ways. Ultimately, traveling to Ghana—or any other country—helps build global awareness and a sense of shared humanity, which is vital in today’s interconnected world.
Why do you think learning a new language is important?
Learning a new language is incredibly important because it opens doors to communication, understanding, and opportunity on a global scale. For someone like me, who speaks both English and French—two of the most widely spoken international languages—this skill significantly broadens my ability to connect with diverse people, cultures, and professional networks around the world.
Speaking multiple languages allows me to engage more deeply and authentically with different communities, whether through work, travel, or collaboration. It also enhances cognitive abilities like problem-solving, creativity, and adaptability. In today’s interconnected world, being multilingual not only makes me more competitive in the job market but also helps bridge cultural divides, fostering empathy and mutual respect.
For my roles in teaching, digital marketing, and community work, fluency in English and French equips me to reach a wider audience, share knowledge effectively, and build stronger relationships across borders—amplifying the impact of my work and the mission of Village Exchange Ghana.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Meaningful travel, to me, goes beyond just visiting new places—it’s about connecting deeply with the people, culture, and stories of the destination. It means approaching travel with respect, curiosity, and an open heart, seeking to learn and understand rather than just observe. Meaningful travel involves contributing positively to the communities I visit, whether through sharing skills, supporting local initiatives, or simply engaging in genuine, respectful exchanges.
It’s a chance to grow personally by challenging my assumptions, expanding my worldview, and gaining new perspectives. Ultimately, meaningful travel is about creating experiences that leave a lasting impact—not only on the places I visit but also on myself—helping me become more compassionate, aware, and connected to the world.
What hopes do you have for the future of international education?
I hope the future of international education becomes more inclusive, accessible, and transformative for learners around the world. I envision a system where education crosses borders not just physically, but through meaningful exchange of ideas, cultures, and experiences. International education should empower students to become global citizens—equipped not only with academic knowledge, but also with empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to collaborate across differences.
I also hope to see more integration of technology and creativity in international education, making it possible for young people—especially from underrepresented or rural communities like those we serve at Village Exchange Ghana—to access world-class learning and opportunities. My dream is for education to no longer be limited by geography or circumstance, but to become a bridge that connects people, nurtures talents, and inspires collective action for a more just and sustainable world.
What qualities in program & host community relations are essential to you? (And Village Exchange International?)
For me—and for Village Exchange Ghana—strong program and host community relations are built on trust, mutual respect, and genuine collaboration. It’s important that every program we run is developed with the community, not just for them. We value open communication, cultural sensitivity, and active listening to ensure that community voices are heard and reflected in every decision we make.
Sustainability and relevance are also key. We aim to design programs that respond directly to the community’s real needs and aspirations, and that leave behind lasting skills, confidence, and capacity. Respect for local knowledge, traditions, and leadership is essential—we see our role as partners and facilitators, not outsiders imposing change.
Ultimately, the most important qualities are empathy, humility, and a shared commitment to positive impact. When communities feel seen, valued, and empowered, the relationships grow stronger—and the work becomes truly meaningful.
