What inspired you to go abroad?

I wanted to travel and experience a different culture. I was sick of having the same basic experiences as everyone I knew. I also wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone.

Why did you choose MediaKids specifically?

It seemed like the right fit from the interview. The company was extremely helpful and made everything very easy.

What was your favorite part about your host city?

I loved everything about Sawang Daen Din. I was nervous about not being in a major city before I got there, but now whenever people ask me where I am from I'm proud to say Sawang.

What has made your experience abroad unique?

Meeting lots of good friends. When you are abroad and often in situations that can be stressful or confusing, I think it becomes easier to build a connection with the people you are going through that with.

How did local staff support you throughout your program?

They were very helpful. They were always quick to respond to emails or text messages, and happy to answer any questions.

Describe a typical day in the life of your program.

You wake up and go to school. Only teaching about four classes a day gives you enough time to get your work done at school, so after that your time is your own.

What did you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoyed exploring on my motorcycle or just hanging with my Thai friends in town. I had a friend who would take us to what would be all the tourists traps if tourists ever came to Sakhon Nakhon and the surrounding area. Also, just riding the motorcycle and being treated like a celebrity when I would stop for lunch.

What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?

My apartment was fantastic. The king size bed was really nice. The landlord was friendly and helpful.

What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?

I think the biggest thing is just don't have expectations. I tried to imagine what it would be like before I came and it just made me nervous. I think all you can do is wake up and take each day as it comes. There are going to be parts that are annoying, but there are also going to be amazing things you won't ever forget.

Would you recommend MediaKids to other aspiring teachers? Why?

I think MediaKids is a great way to find out if teaching abroad is something you will enjoy. The curriculum isn't too demanding, so for people without previous teaching experience it won't be too daunting. The company is very helpful and will do their best to help you feel comfortable living in Thailand.

What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?

Probably not crashed the motorcycle right when I got here, but that's about
