What inspired you to work for Teaching House?

I finished my degree and wanted to do an internship in a company which could offer me a multicultural aspect far from home. I decided to apply to the Teaching House intern position and the interview with Nahal convinced me, I couldn’t wait to start! They are helping people from all over the world and always in an amazing working environment.

Why do you do what you do?

I had the opportunity to assist in an English Class my first day of work. I loved sharing this great experience with them. It is very impressive to see how much these students improve and enjoy classes. As a non-native English speaker, I would have loved having these free classes when I started learning the language. That is why I chose to work in a language school and love helping people in their first stages while learning a new language.

How do you use your education and international background in your current role?

I think the fact that I have studied at an international school has helped me to become a more open minded person. I have always wanted to spend some years abroad, and living in several countries has allowed me to understand how our students might feel about being in a foreign country. I feel that I can offer a more customized and complete service. I have learned during these past years that this is one of the most important things while working face-to-face with our customers.

Always read the fine print!

Why should someone choose Teaching House over competitors?

We give a very complete service. In addition to providing English-language teacher training, Teaching House provides three services to the community: free English-language classes at all of our centers, free TESOL consultancy for other providers of free English-language classes to improve the quality of their instruction, and educational grants to ESOL-based programs. We assist our graduates to find a job after our courses through our Jobs Center too. What else can you ask for?

Why do you think learning a new language is important?

I think learning a new language is something necessary in life. Our language is the most important part of our being. I think it is important to learn other languages besides our own because it helps us to learn about other people and cultures. There is nothing more incredible than having the opportunity to maintain a proper conversation with people from another country in their own language.

What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?

Don’t think it twice! Go, go, go! We’ve got just one life to live, say yes to new experiences and new places. I think everyone is scared at the beginning but you can’t imagine how wonderful it is.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

To me, a meaningful travel means having an experience that allows me to feel and understand how the culture is in that place. Meeting local people or tasting their food can be so exciting! I use these journeys to reflect and look after myself.

I always wanted to travel abroad, but didn't know anyone else doing it, nor did I have the resources to research until the Internet became a huge tool for the masses.
