The Hiroshima program is ideal for those who wish to combine academic coursework with the experience of living in an extraordinary historical city. Students may enroll for one or two semesters and have the opportunity to study Japanese language, culture and society with a broad range of other classes including Science and Information Technology, Biotechnology, Business Law and Economics, and Culture, Education and Society. The academic courses are only part of the intended value of a semester or year abroad. Participation in formal and informal activities such as field trips to local historical sites, form an integral part of the program.
Hiroshima is a historically rich city that offers many opportunities for students to become involved in the culture. Students may take part in a local sake festival, a trip to Miyajima Island, a school visit and a rice harvesting experience. Students can also study the Japanese language, as we offer 5 levels of Japanese. The best part is that no previous language coursework is required! Hiroshima has a remarkable landscape as seen by picturesque, ever changing mountains, four seasons and the six rivers flowing through the city. The northern part of the city is particularly mountainous, offering recreation opportunities in water sports in the summer and snow sports in the winter. Hiroshima offers a marvelous opportunity to study Peace Studies as they are one of the world's leading centers advocating peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
