San José, the capital city of Costa Rica, is set in the lush Central Valley of the Costa Rican highlands. As the cultural, economic and political center of Costa Rica, San José is where the majority of Costa Ricans live, work, study and play. Students studying in San José will be able to experience a vibrant and busy Latin American metropolis while also having the rest of Costa Rica's pristine natural wonders at their fingertips. Downtown San José features a pedestrian-friendly walkway, where students can enjoy strolling, stopping at a café and sipping on a coffee and shopping at the Mercado Central. When students want an escape from the city the Pacific coast is two hours away, the Caribbean coast is 4 hours away and adventures abound in the rainforests and on the rivers that surround the city.

Highlights

ISA San José students can study at either the Universidad Latina-San Pedro or Veritas University. Both Universities are well-respected and highly regarded institutions in Costa Rica. Programs in San José offer courses at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students may choose to take classes with Costa Rican students or classes with international students.

There are two conveniently located ISA offices in San José. The main ISA office is located near the Veritas campus, just west of downtown San José and within walking distance of cafés, shopping centers and quaint Costa Rican neighborhoods. The three-story building provides an open and welcoming atmosphere to ISA students. The office has a meeting room, computer lab with Wi-Fi access, resident director office, kitchen, and travel resource library. Students are welcome to come and receive free tutoring, utilize academic resources, check the bulletin board for upcoming community events or just catch up with friends and the ISA staff.
