Globalteer is a registered charity in the UK providing ethical and affordable volunteering with the amazing children of Peru. The Peru Kids project is based high in the Andes mountain range in the city of Cusco, the oldest continually inhabited city in South America and the staging post for Machu Picchu.
The project includes a free education programme and community library.
The project focuses on the young and vulnerable to assist them in finding a way out of the trap of poverty by providing their current nutritional needs and to support them in their education so that they can become contributing members to their families and society.
Community Project - Globalteer's 'Picaflor House' project is based in Oropesa village outside of Cusco. The Focus is on taking the children off the streets and providing a safe place for the children outside of government school hours. Once at the project, the children are provided with education and fun activities such as English classes, library, arts, sports and excursions.
Many of the children attending the school in Oropesa come from surrounding villages and walk up to 4 hours per day to attend school. Some children live away from their families to be closer to the school. Many children are required to work for their lodgings away from home.
Volunteers - Assist the local staff to teach English, play sports, arts, reading and fun activities. Volunteer can also do manual work to improve the project: painting, decorating, gardening etc.
Orphanages and vulnerable children - Provide safe places for the children to live, learn and play. More than 70 children are provided with a home in two locations, one for boys and one for girls.
The children are 4 to 18 years old and either have no family or come from high risk families that are unable to care for them. The children are provided with food and education as well as vocational training to allow them to support themselves in the future.
Volunteers - Assist the local staff to teach Spanish or English. Play sports, arts and fun activities, teach the children vocational skills. Volunteer can also do manual work to improve the project: painting, decorating, gardening etc.
Community library - A place for children, ages 6 and older to come, open the door, and enter the wonderful world of reading. Each page of a book will be an opening of a door that brings a child to a new place or one they already are familiar with; introduces them to new people, characters, and animals; presents new and fascinating ideas and concepts.
The library provides children a safe and quiet place where they can do their homework, with texts, references, tools, and personal warm and friendly help presented with positive reinforcement. The children are given an opportunity to engage and share with other children while playing learning games that develop thinking skills, such as chess, puzzles, dominoes, drafts and checkers.
Volunteers - Read with the children, assist with homework, organize games and fun activities for the children, teach, assist local staff, do manual work improving the project facilities.
By volunteering you will be helping to give these children the chance of a future. The enthusiasm and resilience of these children who would otherwise be begging on the streets or have no chance of a decent future is something that will stay with you always.

Volunteering is an amazing way to gain an insight into the culture of a country. Once you volunteer you are no longer just another tourist, you will work intimately with the local staff and more importantly give a special gift to the project and community you visit. Volunteering is for those who have an interest in other cultures and want to help those less fortunate than themselves. You also get to meet like minded people, adventurous, open minded and with a willingness to make a difference.
Over 18; if younger, need to be accompanied by an adult.
Worldwide Participants. This Program is also open to Families, Couples and Individuals.

Globalteer is a UK registered charity that serves to help those in need. We aim to provide support to communities and projects in need, to raise awareness in developed countries of the plight faced by poverty stricken countries, and to educate locals and volunteers about environmental issues and the need to protect wildlife. We promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public through the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and disadvantaged communities. We also promote humane behavior towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage; and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.
