  • Description

Denmark is well known for its commitment to areas such as alternative energy, energy conservation, public transportation, urban planning, and ecologically and socially sustainable architectural design. Through coursework and hands-on field visits around Scandinavia, the program offers a broad understanding of the links and tensions between environmental challenges and sustainable solutions, and a Scandinavian perspective on best practices within urban development and transportation, alternative energy sources and energy conservation, and waste management. Student in this program will enroll in the "Sustainable Development: Environmental, Political, and Social Issues" core course, which is an examination of the concepts and philosophies of sustainability. We will look at the roles of individuals, communities, business, and government in shaping sustainable development. Emphasis on Danish and European experiences and perspectives.
