  • Description

Broadreach offers experiential summer adventures for teenagers ages 13-18, including scuba, sailing, multi-sport, marine biology, language immersion and community service programs that span the globe. Over the years, we've taken thousands of teenagers to some of the world's most incredible destinations -- the islands of the Caribbean, Australia, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Belize, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, the Sinai Peninsula and Baja. Our multi-activity adventures offer a wide variety of pursuits including scuba, sailing, surfing, sea kayaking, rafting, backcountry hiking, camel trekking, wilderness adventure and community service.

Broadreach's educational adventures provide opportunities for teenagers to learn new skills and explore the world in an active, hands-on environment that fully immerses the participant in the experience. Each trip has its own blend of discoveries and challenges, designed to take advantage of the unique character and opportunities of the regions we visit. Combining the thrill of discovery, the pride of accomplishment and the excitement of exploration, Broadreach programs focus on individual initiative, group dynamics and genuine participation in the world.

Broadreach is not a teen tour or traditional summer camp. We don't travel in buses, large groups or flotillas of sailboats. The cornerstone of our program design and philosophy is our small group size of just 10-14 participants. Living in a small group promotes teamwork, leadership, compromise and consideration, teaching important lessons applicable to life that will last long after the program is over. Opportunities are created not only by our course design, but by the group itself. Staff and students come together as a team to make the adventure happen. Our staff gives participants individual attention and helps to shape the trip around the goals and abilities of the group. In a small group, you can relax and be yourself. The supportive, non-competitive atmosphere created allows participants to appreciate others for who they are and make close friendships with people who have diverse interests and backgrounds.

Broadreachers do things they never thought they would do, see places they never thought they would see and explore our world on a level they never could with their family or on their own. We have programs for most abilities and interests and no experience is required for many of our trips. Just come with a desire to try new things and broaden your experiences!

  • Highlights

Experience: For more than fifteen years Broadreach has taken over 6500 to every corner of the world on hundreds of summer adventures. Years of experience, planning and scouting go into developing each Broadreach program, and we constantly strive to improve and refine our programs to take advantage of new opportunities.

Awesome Fun: Consistently Broadreachers say, "It was the best summer I've ever had." Our adventures are a blast! The high number of returning participants and referrals is testimony to the high quality of our programs.

Small Groups: We limit our trip size to 10 to 14 participants of similar age. This allows Broadreachers to do more, see more and have more fun. Small groups promote a sense of adventure and discovery that is unattainable when traveling in a larger group. The flexibility created permits our staff to cater the program to the dynamics and goals of each group and to work with the students as a team to create the experience. Small groups also allow us to minimize our impact on the environment.

Personal Growth: Broadreach creates an environment that promotes a strong sense of teamwork and group awareness, yet recognizes the importance of leadership and individual success. Living side by side in small groups, participants face the timeless concepts of honesty and integrity, responsibility and dependability, commitment and respect for others.

Education and Skill Building: Reaching beyond the traditions of passive learning, Broadreachers are introduced to a wealth of educational experiences and environments that are dynamic and interactive. Whether the activity is sailing, sea kayaking or scuba diving, expertise is built sensibly through a step-by-step, learn-by-doing approach.

Program Locations: We travel to incredible places off the beaten path. Each trip is designed to make the most of a given destination, and all locations maximize cultural, educational and skill building opportunities.

Our Staff: With hundreds of applicants every year, Broadreach can be extremely selective in who we hire. From sailing captains and PADI scuba instructors to teachers, marine biologists and experiential education professionals, they all come with solid experience and a genuine desire to work with teenagers. A large percentage return each year, allowing for consistency and continuity in our high standards.

Low Student to Staff Ratios: There are two main leaders for every trip of 10 to 14 students, plus additional staff that join the group to bring expertise for specific activities or areas we explore, resulting in a typical student to staff ratio of 4:1. This low ratio helps us provide quality experience and instruction and is critical to our team approach to safety.

Our Participants: Broadreachers come from 50 states and abroad, with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, but they all share a desire to have an exceptional summer by doing something different. Our pre-program conversations, questionnaires and correspondence help ensure that they are eager for and motivated to make the most of their adventure.

Diverse Program Offerings: Our extraordinary variety of program activities and locations offers something for almost everyone, and guarantees something new, exciting and different for Broadreachers to do summer after summer. Many of our participants come back for years, discovering and exploring a different part of the world on each adventure. Although the program focus and backdrop may be vastly different from one trip to the next, our consistent program design and philosophy allow each participant to get the same "Broadreach experience" regardless of which trip they choose.

Cultural Appreciation: While exploring the sights, sounds and smells of the countries we visit, Broadreachers interact with native people and gain respect for local customs. Traveling to new places and learning about new cultures can teach us as much about ourselves and our own way of life as it does about others.

Community Service: On most programs, we take at least a day to give something back to the communities and ecosystems we visit. We can provide a letter for participants that wish to use this experience to help fulfill a school requirement.

Family Atmosphere: Broadreach strives to have every parent and teen feel well-informed and a part of our family. We meet many families and participants throughout the winter as we visit different towns and schools, and each family is contacted by the program advisor for their trip before the summer to discuss the program and answer questions.

No Experience is Necessary: We have programs for every ability and experience level. On most programs, no previous experience is required. We teach you step-by-step, at your own pace. Come with a desire to try new things and broaden your experiences.
