We invite you to spend 4 weeks of summer study in Austria, the birthplace of Mozart and among the most elegant and exciting cities in the European soil. Austria was recognized by UNESCO World Heritage because of its interesting architecture and unique national identity. You will be studying in Salzburg, located just north of the Alps with lush greens, mountains, and lakes. Study in Austria and experience the exciting outdoors!
Salzburg Program:
- 4-week summer study abroad in Salzburg, Austria
- Open to high school graduates, college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 required
- Typical course load is 6 semester credits
- Courses taught in English in Anthropology, Art history, History, Music and Sociology, plus German language
- No previous German language study required
- German language study is optional during the program
- The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
- Visa not required for U.S. citizens for less than a 3-month stay
- Transcripts issued by the University of Salzburg
Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of Austrian culture, a wealth of cultural activities and excursions are included in your program fee.
The Resident Director organizes a variety of activities which usually include:
- Salzburg city tour
- Visit to local pastry shop
- Coffee house get-together
- Trip to the Salt Mines where you can go down a 100-footlong slide, take a ride on a raft on the salt lake and ride a miniature train to explore the magical world of salt beneath the surface of the earth
- Day visit to Hellbrunn Palace with the famous water fountains from 1619
- Visits to museums and galleries

Fee includes:
- Tuition - up to 6 semester credits (subject to course selection)
- Housing - double or triple rooms in residence halls
- Meal allowance - to subsidize breakfast and one other meal daily
- Cultural activities such as: walking tours, hiking, visits to museums and art galleries, pastry tasting and musical events
- Excursions - Munich, Germany (day trip) and Vienna (3 days)
- Comprehensive insurance and assistance package
- Services of a pre-departure Student Advisory Center and an on-site Resident Director
- Pre-departure handbook
Optional Components:
- AIFS Flight Package includes visit to London Round trip flights U.S.-London, London-Munich, Munich-U.S. and round trip transfers between the airport and campus overseas. The flight pack- age also includes a 3-day stopover in London on the way to campus.
