World Endeavors' Director Meets the President

Tom and the President of GuatemalaRecently, World Endeavors' Director and founder, Tom Peden, met someone very important. No, not George, or Hillary or Barack or John. He met the newly inaugurated president of Guatemala, Álvaro Colom. Tom spotted him in the airport on his way out of the country and being a good student of the world, he recognized President Colom. "I approached his security detail and asked if I could meet the president," Tom said. Tom was brought to the president and they chatted about the weather and World Endeavors' new programs in Guatemala. "He was very interested in our projects and was happy to invite volunteers from other countries to spend time in Guatemala helping its people and learning about the culture - he was a really nice, approachable guy." After a photo op and well wishes, each flew on to other destinations. You never know who you'll meet in an international airport.

Testimonials

"The greatest benefit of my experience was the exposure to new animals, nature, activities and most importantly people. I gained so much from conversing and traveling with people who were different than anyone I have ever met. I know they have made an impression on me and I like to think I did the same for them. As for the challenges, I had to deal with some undesirable situations like illness and problems traveling. But, World Endeavors was very helpful and helped me get through everything!"
--Emily Keenan, Volunteer Costa Rica

"I thought [the program] was very well organized, with the perfect amount of support and independence that a young traveler and volunteer would need."
--Nessa Norich, Volunteer Costa Rica

"The greatest benefits I had were the friends I made from all over the world, the numerous activities to explore the culture, learning a new language, gaining the experience I wanted, living my dream, and growing as a more well-rounded, independent person."
--Cindy Wong, Intern Italy

"This experience will influence my academic, career, and life decisions… This experience has taught me to take advantage of life's teachings and gifts. Also, my trip abroad emphasized the importance of learning from day to day and living each day to the fullest."
--Mark Cebul, Volunteer Brazil
