Lima, the capital of Peru, is located on the west coast of the Pacific along the Rímac River. This large, international city balances both modern and traditional influences, which evolved from Peru's history as the home of the Inca and numerous other civilized cultures dating back as far as 2000 BC. Opportunities vary from rehabilitating marine life to working with disabled or at-risk youth to creating environmental protection campaigns. By partnering with community-based organizations and following a structured, reflection-based curriculum, you will learn how local experts address these issues with available resources while developing intercultural and leadership skills in a real-world context. Each of our community-based organizations is unique, so visit our website to learn more about your options. Although all our programs are great, we especially recommend Lima for students who are interested in marine biology or human rights.

A Guide to Business Volunteering Abroad

Why Volunteer in Business Abroad

There is a lot to see and do in this big, beautiful world, but sometimes those drab cubicle walls can seem a bit like a trap. It is easy to feel like a break from the traditional 9-to-5 will lead to a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out!) on valuable time in your career. However, there are many meaningful travel opportunities that will not leave a gaping hole in your resume! For students and recent graduates, a professional volunteer placement is the perfect liaison between the “real world” and seeing the world.

When it comes to business volunteering abroad, you can choose from many different areas of business. Especially if you are still trying to find your niche (aren’t we all?!), business volunteering can be a great way to get a “trial run” in different roles without long term commitment. Business volunteers can gain valuable international work experience that will jazz up their resume, and inspire new ways of thinking and problem solving.

Speaking of your career, volunteer experience is already a highly coveted section on resumes (employers eat it up!), because it shows that you are an altruistic person with initiative. With a business-related volunteering - ding, ding, ding! - that is the sound of a winning combination on your resume.

Business today is all about globalization and intercultural communication. By volunteering in business abroad, you’ll be proving to employers that you have both the business skills and cultural awareness to be successful in today’s workplace. Not to mention, business volunteering will also help you build an international network that could help you land your future dream job.

A life changing experience

December 13, 2025by: Irene Neal - CanadaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
9

I was looking for an escape from my comfortable lifestyle at home in Canada. I wanted to share my passion helping others less fortunate than myself. I searched international volunteering programs, have volunteered in four countries in 2025, and can truly say these experiences have changed my life. How do you feel when an elderly person in a old people's home in Zambia begs you to stay with them and share stories and smiles? What happens to you when the school children in Ghana hug you so tight you lose your breath? What overtakes your mind when you introduce positive ideas to women in an impoverished village in Sri Lanka, and see them take possession of new personal empowerment? Let me tell you. It grabs you by the heart and nourishes your soul. It makes you want to come back again and again. Which is exactly what I plan to do in 2026.
